API appoints Kevin Slagle as senior vice president of communications

(WO) — The American Petroleum Institute (API) has appointed Kevin Slagle as its new senior vice president of communications. Slagle will lead API’s communications team to advance the U.S. oil and natural gas industry’s priorities in Washington, including those outlined in API’s 5-Point Policy Roadmap.

“We are thrilled to welcome Kevin to lead communications on behalf of an industry tackling the world’s most pressing energy challenges,” said API Executive President and Chief Advocacy Officer Amanda Eversole. “Kevin is a seasoned leader and communicator with a proven track record at the center of some of the industry’s most consequential advocacy campaigns. His strategic approach and passion for American energy will be essential to advancing our members’ priorities in Washington.”

Slagle expressed enthusiasm about joining API at a critical time for America’s energy future. “The U.S. oil and natural gas industry is critical for powering our economy, driving innovation and strengthening national security, and I am grateful for the opportunity to lead our efforts to carry that message to policymakers and consumers across the country,” he said.

With over two decades of experience in the oil and natural gas industry, Slagle will oversee all communications for API’s advocacy efforts, which include earned and paid media, digital communications, research, and thought leadership. He will lead API’s multi-year Lights on Energy campaign, aimed at educating voters and policymakers on the essential role of U.S. oil and natural gas in meeting global demand for affordable, reliable, and cleaner energy.

Prior to joining API, Slagle served as vice president of strategy and communications for the Western States Petroleum Association (WSPA) and held leadership roles at global public relations firms, including Ogilvy Public Relations and Edelman.
