Port Harcourt — Fresh oil spills from a pipeline operated by the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited, SPDC, has again rocked Ebubu community in Eleme, an Ogoni area in Rivers State.

The spill which has been on since last Monday, according to the locals, occurred when an excavator deployed by a pipeline maintenance contractor working on Shell line accidentally punctured an active pipe leading to crude oil oozing out with pressure from the ground.

Ebubu community in 2021 after 32years of legal battle, got $111million (N45.9billion) out-of-court settlement from SPDC, in compensation for an oil spill which occurred on the same Shell’s facility in the late 1960s during Nigeria’s civil war.
