Candidate Profile
- At least a bachelor’s degree in accounting or partly Professional Accounting qualification.
- Knowledge of Finance and Accounting, plus at least two years working experience.
- Must be prepared to work beyond normal hours.
- Must be dedicated, reliable and inspire confidence.
- Must be able to communicate effectively.
Activities
- At all times remain cognizant of the company’s safety requirements with regards to the position and conduct, including abiding bythe 12 golden rules on safety. Report all cases of near miss encountered and use STOP card where necessary.
- Serve as the Accountant for Ghana Bunkering Services Limited (GBS)
- Preparation and submission of SSNIT and PAYE returns on monthly basis.
- Monthly preparation of Bank reconciliation.
- Preparation and submission of withholding tax returns to GRA on the 1Sth of every month.
- Preparation and submission of quarterly Corporate lncome Tax assessment to GRA.
- Preparation and submission of Ghana Bunkering Services VAT returns on monthly basis.
- Maintaining the proper accounting system of Ghana Bunkering Services.
- Responsible for billing of Oil Marketing Companies with throughput.
- Prepare yearly budget.
- Serve as the main accounting contact and liaison for all joint-venture ie Ghanstock/RSUTLOC.
- Ensure that all cost incurred for JV’s are re-invoiced.
- Follow-up and collect outstanding bills with JV’s.
- Obtain and file all necessary documentation for all JV’s.
- Review JV accounts and reconcile with TPGL.
- Review and analyze general ledger accounts (allocated).
- Process all MIRO related to sundry suppliers other than CAPEX/Product purchases.
Context & Environment
Ghana is an Anglophone country surrounded by Francophone countries. The financial sector is very vibrant. The country operates a flexible exchange rate, but with a volatile currency. The Oil industry is very competitive having about 70 (seventy) oil marketing companies. There are 3 (three) major oil marketing companies including Total Petroleum, which is the leading oil marketing company with close to 25Yo market share. The energy sector is partially regulated. The company sells on both cash and credit basis and this calls for effective controls to ensure proper accountability. lt also operates a multi- currency regime with its attendant exchange rate fluctuations. The company operates throughout the country with some areas very remote requiring regular monitoring especially the banking system. The company is also listed on the Ghana stock exchange which requires very stringent and accurate reporting.
