Founded in 1919, ExxonMobil’s Baytown Complex is located on approximately 3,400 acres along the Houston Ship Channel, about 25 miles east of Houston. Employing a workforce of more than 8,500, it is comprised of four manufacturing sites, including one in nearby Mont Belvieu, and a global technology center. These include the Baytown Refinery, one of the largest refineries in the United States, and the Baytown Olefins Plant, one of the largest ethylene plants in the world.

Its scope of products includes fuels, lube oils, and chemical compounds used in a diverse range of products, from auto battery cases, diapers and tire inner tubes to pharmaceutical uses, food packaging, trash bags and more.
The Baytown area sites are highly integrated, which makes the plants and products more efficient as we develop technologies to make cleaner fuels and work together to operate more safely and reliably.

What role you will play in our team

• Provides technical expertise for technology and project development and execution, unit optimization and troubleshooting, unit startup/shutdown and turnaround support and infrastructure work.  
• Works with technology and marketing to develop and execute new processes and products.
• Location is Baytown, TX
   

What you will do

• Provide technical expertise to ensure the overall health of ExxonMobil’s BS&I process and product technology.
• Contribute to all stages of asset development and operation, inclusive of support to technology commercialization.
• Support project development from concept selection through commissioning and startup and/or all phases of asset operational life.
• Lead key growth projects, as defined and aligned with Market Development team
• Perform research and development in specific skill area(s).
• Interface with business Market development and technology to define new product opportunities
• Coordinate technical programs to support market introduction of new products
• Provide technical process expertise in manufacturing process optimization.
• Planning, coordinating and timely execution of lab and pilot plant experiments for program or manufacturing support activities
• Translates lab or pilot plant results into process models that are used to scale-up to commercial scale
• Designs or revamps lab or pilot plant equipment and facilities in order to gain insight into chemistry or engineering fundamentals relevant to program or support activities.
• Participate in global, cross-disciplinary and commercial operation teams to ensure smooth technology handoff and product commercialization
• Apply understanding of asset operations, and teamwork, communication and presentation skills to develop and deliver cost effective technical support within the individual’s core discipline.
• Document completed efforts such that others can leverage their work to enable efficient future similar efforts. Identify opportunities to improve work processes.

About You

Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelors or Masters Degree in: Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or similar 
• Functional/behavioral skill proficiencies consistent with the Job role requirements
• Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills
• Process Engineering knowledge 
• Good understanding of physical and chemical analytical techniques

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

• PhD Degree in:  Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or similar
• Experience with process modelling simulation software (PRO/II or Aspen)
• Good understanding of physical and chemical properties of relevant fluids and their impact on performance in applications
• In-depth formulation knowledge of formulated products incorporating specialty Performance Fluids molecules as key ingredients 
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams (Technical, Sales, and Marketing), to acquire knowledge on new product and application requirements to guide development efforts
