About Baytown
With a population of more than 77,000, Baytown, Texas, is located in the Gulf Coast region of the United States, just east of Houston, the nation’s fourth largest city. Those who live and work in Baytown will find an area rich in history, as well as opportunities for outdoor activities due to its proximity to scenic waterways, namely Galveston Bay, the San Jacinto River and Buffalo Bayou.
Founded in 1919, ExxonMobil’s Baytown Complex is located on approximately 3,400 acres along the Houston Ship Channel, about 25 miles east of Houston. Employing a workforce of more than 8,500, it is comprised of four manufacturing sites, including one in nearby Mont Belvieu, and a global technology center. These include the Baytown Refinery, one of the largest refineries in the United States, and the Baytown Olefins Plant, one of the largest ethylene plants in the world.
Its scope of products includes fuels, lube oils, and chemical compounds used in a diverse range of products, from auto battery cases, diapers and tire inner tubes to pharmaceutical uses, food packaging, trash bags and more.
The Baytown area sites are highly integrated, which makes the plants and products more efficient as we develop technologies to make cleaner fuels and work together to operate more safely and reliably.

What role you will play in our team
Seeking an experienced Analyzer Engineer to join the Engineering Services Team at the ExxonMobil Refinery and Chemical Complex in Baytown, Texas.
This position is located in Baytown, Texas at the ExxonMobil Baytown Complex near Houston, Texas (Harris County). The ExxonMobil Baytown Complex is located on approximately 3,400 acres along the Houston Ship Channel, about 25 miles east of Houston. It is comprised of four manufacturing sites, including one in nearby Mont Belvieu and a global technology center. The Baytown Complex also includes the Baytown Refinery, one of the largest refineries in the United States, and the Baytown Olefins Plant, one of the largest ethylene plants in the world.
At ExxonMobil Baytown, Analyzer Engineers work on multi-functional teams to support online analyzers that provide automated, real-time analytical measurements of various manufacturing processes. Analyzer Engineers work together with operations, maintenance, engineering, and technical personnel to troubleshoot and improve online analyzers. Analyzer Engineers also collaborate with third-party vendors and the centralized ExxonMobil Technology and Engineering organization to design new analyzers, improve preexisting designs, and trial new technologies.
What you will do
- Collaborate across multi-functional teams to support troubleshooting and design of online analyzer systems
- Provide daily technical expertise and support to operations, maintenance, and technical departments related to process analyzer systems
- Support small project development and execution for analyzer systems, including clarifying design specifications, developing cost estimation, reviewing required systems and infrastructure, and supporting execution and commissioning
- Monitor performance of preexisting analyzer systems, develop plans to improve analyzer reliability as applicable, and collaborate across departments to realize reliability improvements
- Participate in the development of the analyzer team, through peer-to-peer interactions, including mentoring, reverse-mentoring, and knowledge share
About you
Skills and Qualifications
- BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent engineering degree is preferred; advanced degrees are welcomed
- Previous work experience in manufacturing environment, with a general understanding of personnel safety, environmental, and process safety risks
- Understanding of physics and chemistry, especially in regard to gas and fluid dynamics
- Understanding of integrated analyzer systems and knowledge of different analytical measurement techniques (i.e. gas chromatography, spectroscopy, electrochemistry)
- Ability to work well on multi-functional teams, with excellent communications, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Enjoys working in a fast-pace work environment with proficiency in coordinating competing work activities and priorities
- Comfortable in a range of work environments, from computer-based technical monitoring to field-based troubleshooting activities
- Previous analyzer engineering experience, experience working at a refinery or chemical facility, and general mechanical aptitude are advantageous
