ExxonMobil has operated in the U.K. for more than 135 years. We are best known today for the marketing of our Esso fuels and Mobil 1 lubricants and for our petrochemicals. We have refining and chemical operations in the UK, we operate the UK’s biggest private pipeline network and we retain a non-operated share in a number of fields in the North Sea. More recently, we are developing our involvement in lower emission projects in the UK, building on our experience in carbon capture and storage (CCS), hydrogen production and biofuels.

What role you will play in our team
Working within ExxonMobil’s global Biofuels & Carbon trading team, the successful applicant will play a substantial role in trading our European carbon portfolio, and particularly focusing on the European and UK Emissions Trading Systems. They will work closely with the rest of the Biofuels & Carbon team and with the wider ExxonMobil Trading and Analytics teams. This role also requires the development of strong relationships both internally across the ExxonMobil ‘system’ as well as externally with many trading counterparties and brokers
What you will do
- Develop and maintain knowledge of market fundamentals, buying/selling positions, associated relevant regulations, and standard industry contracting practices
- Develop and maintain relationships with market participants
- Negotiate and execute short term sales and purchases consistent with commercial strategies
- Conduct derivative activities in accordance with ExxonMobil guidelines
- Identify and execute optimization and trading opportunities
- Manage transactions and contracts, as needed, through entire supply cycle and document them in relevant system
- Participate in commercial trading strategy development
- Ensure alignment with functions, and compliance with all relevant management systems and guidelines
- Participate in, or support, value chain optimization teams, as applicable
- Evaluate, recommend and/or execute hedging strategies for commercial activities in close cooperation with lead trader and Risk Control
- Qualify and quantify risks related to own trading and commercial activities and implement risk mitigation strategies as needed with guidance from a lead trader
- Manage financial risk with approved use of hedging strategies and derivatives
About You
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in commercial, engineering or numerate discipline, Masters degree preferred
- Minimum of 3 years commercial, analytics, and/or risk management experience in a trading environment, with 5+ years preferred
- Ability to develop new business relationships and to capture new opportunities
- Strong communication & interpersonal skills
- The ability to collaborate effectively with internal & external customers
- Innovative and analytical thinking
- Intellectual rigor, strong drive and desire to lead change
- Self-starting team player with the ability to multitask in a dynamic high-pressure team environment.
Preferred Qualifications/ Experience
- Strong technical knowledge and/or trading experience of the European carbon, biofuels, power or gas markets is preferred
