Job Description:

Our client, a mining company on the African continent, is currently looking for a Category Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for managing specific categories of products or services. The primary objective is to maximize the category’s profitability and growth while ensuring Operation and Project satisfaction. The Category Manager is responsible for identification of sources of supply, procurement and set up of contracts for operational equipment/spares. The position supports management of critical product categories that require a high degree of analytical capabilities.  There is a strong focus on continuous improvement in the performance of vendors providing goods and services to the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute category strategies aligned with business objectives, conduct market research, analyze trends, and identify growth opportunities.
  • Collaborate with marketing, sales, and product development teams to develop comprehensive strategies.
  • Identify, negotiate, and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure the best terms, pricing, and quality.
  • Determine and optimize the product mix based on customer demand, market trends, and performance metrics.
  • Set pricing strategies, develop promotional campaigns, and adjust based on market activity.
  • Forecast demand, manage inventory flow, and implement strategies to optimize inventory turnover and minimize costs.
  • Track and analyze KPIs, generate reports, and use data-driven insights for continuous optimization.
  • Align category strategies with broader business goals and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, identify opportunities for differentiation, and enhance efficiency.
  • Supervise and train the team, promote effective communication, ensure safety, and comply with HSE practices.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Master or Bac+5 in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics or University degree in engineering, or business is a requirement.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in an Industrial supply chain setting (Experience in mining or related industry would be an advantage).
  • Proficient in MS Office (MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook)
  • Experience with ERP (Microsoft Dynamics) or procurement/supply chain management software.
  • Knowledge of contract negotiations, contract management and contract law affecting procurement practices.
  • Knowledge of the competitive bidding process.
  • Advanced level skill and knowledge of a computer, including MS Office programs such as Outlook, MS Project, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience of working effectively in a senior management team environment.
  • Experience working in multicultural environment, preferably in West Africa.
  • Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and build effective relationships and networks.
