Job Summary




An expert in the field of membrane science and technology contributing to: Gas separation membranes, CO2 & H2S Separation membranes, Membranes for NGL Recovery, Biogas Conditioning, and membrane applications in hydrogen generation, purification, and storage.

Job Summary:

  • Review, understand and follow customer inquiries and technical specifications.
  • Design “oil and gas field” membrane process equipment and process packages.
  • Perform process engineering tasks during project execution.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.

Membrane Technology

  • Broad experience ranging from fundamentals of membrane science to commercial applications in gas separations.
  • Hands-on experience in hollow-fiber membranes, and membrane module fabrication at pilot plant and production scale.
  • Extensive experience in membrane applications development, membrane process evaluations, trouble shooting and optimizations.
  • Expert in membrane technology scouting, new technology evaluations, benchmarking, and acquisitions.
  • Ability to manage various membrane research projects with industrial and academic partners.
  • Developed multistage membrane systems utilizing compression resulting in optimum efficiency and performance.
  • Skilled at defining alternate technology paths and processes, multistage process optimization and troubleshooting, process economics evaluations.

Roles and Responsibilities:
 

  • Evaluate customer inquiries and specifications to determine the best process or equipment design for the application.
  • Design equipment to match specifications or clearly define differences (clarifications or exceptions list) to customer.
  • Submit technical proposals that include a clear definition of the scope of supply, equipment performance, warranty, and delivery. Present the proposal in a way that positively enhances MPS’s position to receive the order.
  • Develop “deliverables” for cost estimating, design engineering, and drafting.
  • Lead the development and creation of all project process deliverables including Heat & Material Balance, PFDs, P&ID’s, process equipment datasheets, PSVs calculations. Ensure that all documents match, and that any changes are picked up on all applicable documents.
  • Confirm compliance with the customer’s purchase order regarding the proposal technical and process requirements.
  • Perform complex process simulations utilizing MPS defined software.
  • Create / review / comment on complex PFDs and P&IDs and perform P&ID walk-downs on fabricated equipment.
  • Perform equipment process design and sizing.
  • Perform line sizing calculations, for compressible and non-compressible fluids.
  • Perform pump’s required head calculations.
  • Provide process information to instrumentation engineers. Select control valves, level instruments and flow measurement instruments together with the instrumentation engineer. Review vendor’s technical information for instruments.
  • Size and define PSV sizing basis.
  • Generate Control Narrative and Control Philosophy documents. Elaborate cause a& effect matrix and define set points of alarms and trips.
  • Participate in customer’s HAZOP or lead internal HAZOP, or other safety studies.
  • Prepare technical requisition for buyout equipment such as heat exchangers, vessels’ internals, vessels, and pumps.
  • Produce Installation, operating (Start-up and Shutdown) and Maintenance Instruction manuals, including lists for Consumables, Special Tools, Lubricants, and Utilities.
  • Perform final review of Project Job Manuals.
  • Perform Peer Reviews of team design work including proposals, cost estimates, deliverables, and fabrication drawings.
  • Provide process technical support for trouble shooting.
  • Perform on site start-up and / or troubleshooting.

Minimum Job Qualifications



  • Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering
  • 5 – 10 years’ experience in the design and selection of process equipment for the Oil and Gas 
  • In depth knowledge of national and international codes and standards for oil field process equipment design and field installation and start-up procedures
  • Competent in process equipment design and sizing.
  • Hands on experience with field start-up and troubleshooting experience of systems produced.
  • Clear understanding of the various raw material types, grades, and selection criteria
  • Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in the US, without sponsorship.

  • The compensation and reference to benefits for this role is listed on this posting in compliance with applicable law.  The selected candidate’s compensation will be determined based on skills, experience, qualifications, and other business and organizational needs.  Please note that the compensation and benefits listed below are only applicable to successful candidates who are hired onto local United States payroll.
  • At SLB, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at/near the top of the range.  The anticipated salary range for this position is $120,000 – $150,000.

Preferred Qualifications



  • Utilizes extensive knowledge, skills and experience to contribute to multiple issues / projects. Leads process activities in medium to large sized projects.
  • Ability to develop process / equipment scheme and layout from conceptual design basis considering operability, maintenance and safety.
  • Ability to educate customers on the advantages of MPS equipment.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with various company departments associated with designing, estimating, fabricating, operating, and selling this equipment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, organized and confident.
  • Ability to utilize Word, Excel, PowerPoint and engineering design programs.
  • Good communication skills at all levels of the business.
  • Self-motivation, initiative and commitment.
  • This is an office-based position, but there may be a requirement for the individual to travel with this position, both in the Americas or overseas.
  • This position involves Project/commissioning support and front-end sales support, including direct contact with external clients and a degree of interface with Senior Managers and Directors within the company. As a result, pressure in this role can be considerable at times.
