Permian Basin Overview

ConocoPhillips and its heritage companies have operated in the Permian Basin for almost 100 years. The transformational acquisitions of Concho Resources Inc. and Shell Enterprises LLC’s prolific positions in the Delaware and Midland Basins in 2021 further strengthened the company’s position in the Permian Basin. At year-end 2023, the company held approximately 1 million total net acres in the Permian Basin.

During 2023, net production averaged 719 MBOED.

Description

The Permian Completions Analytics Engineer role requires a combination of technical expertise, analytical skills, and effective communication to lead data-driven decision-making and performance within the organization.

If you are selected as the Completions Analytics Engineer, you will play a crucial part in upholding a strong data foundation within completions, emphasizing improved data practices and adoption of emerging technologies. This includes a focus on real-time solutions, cloud technologies and automation. These initiatives will influence the planning and execution outcomes in the Permian completions BU, fostering a culture of driving performance, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Lead and empower the Permian completions organization, encompassing both field and office teams, to extract, analyze, and visualize meaningful insights from organizational data
  • Solve complex data workflow problems applying cross-functional knowledge of the business, networks, influence, and critical thinking
  • Develop and sustain analytic tools while proactively implementing opportunities for enhancement
  • Design and implement data engineering solutions to locate and extract data from a variety of sources. Utilize the extracted data for reporting, analysis, and statistical modeling, driving continuous improvement
  • Generate Spotfire/Power BI visualizations and conduct data analysis to provide and develop well-specific analytic reports, offering additional insights on cost and operational performance
  • Develop and track key performance indicators for data analytics usage
  • Maintain efficient communication with key cross-functional stakeholders (eg. engineering, operations, finance, regulatory, reservoir characterization, production, materials management, supply chain, global wells)
  • Actively contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives with peers across the BU and globally
  • Collaborate with IT and data science teams to align analytics solutions with organizational goals
  • Liaise with the Global Wells organization to actively drive enhancements to the Global Wells suite of analytic tools
  • Evaluate and implement emerging analytic technologies that provide sustainable and fit-for-purpose solutions – real-time tools, cloud solutions & automation capabilities
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to streamline workflows and promote standardization within the completions organization
  • Provide comprehensive training and guidance to engineers, field staff and management, ensuring effective utilization of analytic tools
  • Enforce and manage a high standard of data quality and governance across completion datasets to ensure decisions are based on accurate data
  • Identify and realize opportunities to better leverage and integrate our foundation data models (WellView, Landmark, SAP, Corva etc.)
  • Maintain awareness of the Permian BU asset strategy and execution, ensuring seamless alignment with analytics initiatives for optimal results

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or foreign equivalent
  • 3+ years of engineering experience in the oil and gas industry
  • 3+ years of experience working with analytic visualizations and real-time upstream data platforms
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to travel 10% of the time on a yearly basis

Preferred:

  • Advanced proficiency in WellView Data & System Management
  • Advanced developer in data visualization tools, Spotfire and/or Power BI
  • Strong knowledge in Data Quality & Governance
  • Intermediate knowledge of relational databases (Oracle & SQL) and data warehousing (Snowflake)
  • Experience in data engineering to configure, process and integrate analytics databases
  • Ability to analyze and interpret information optimally to solve problems and make key recommendations and decisions
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to derive insights from complex datasets
  • Highly motivated and requires minimal guidance to fulfill job responsibilities
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
  • Knowledgeable in both SAP front-end and back-end architecture
  • Instruct and guide others through training and mentorship
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team
  • Follows through on commitments, addresses important issues and advocates for the best interest of the business
