Alaska Overview

ConocoPhillips is Alaska’s largest crude oil producer and largest owner of exploration leases, with approximately 1.2 million net undeveloped acres at year-end 2022. The company produced an average of 200 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2022. ConocoPhillips has major ownership interests in two of North America’s largest legacy conventional oil fields, both located on Alaska’s North Slope: Kuparuk, which the company operates, and Prudhoe Bay. Additionally, ConocoPhillips operates several fields on the Western North Slope. The company has an ownership interest in the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) and owns/operates the Polar Tankers fleet.

Description

The Completions Engineer is responsible for engineering excellence in well design, planning and delivery. Additionally, the position ensures that wells are permitted, planned, and can be executed in a safe, environmentally responsible, and cost-efficient manner that adheres to the Company’s SPIRIT values and corporate standards as well as applicable regulatory requirements. The position will focus on the longer term planning, but will also provide operational support when necessary. The expectation is the Completions Engineer will work closely with the Drilling group, Asset personnel, the WSC, Rig Superintendent, and Intervention group to deliver wells to meet our aligned objectives.

Job Description

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Maintain safety as a core principle in every aspect of the job and serve as a safety leader
  • Coordinate with Drilling Engineers and Asset function to progress project objectives through the Well Design & Delivery Process (WDDP). Ensure WDDP expectations and deliverables are met; project assurance, risk assessments, cost estimation, technology progression, etc. This includes inflow performance analysis, sand production and rock mechanics analysis, frac optimization, and production assurance as appropriate
  • Support Exploration Team with Completion designs and execution
  • Ensure well design and operations comply with corporate management standards, approval processes and regulatory requirements. Assess and manage risk with appropriate contingency planning to assure operational integrity
  • Optimize completion designs to improve well life cycle productivity
  • Submit permit sundries as needed for operational execution
  • Perform Wellcat analysis with Drilling Engineers to optimize well designs. Ensure corporate and regulatory requirements are met
  • Develop Completions Procedures for on-rig and stimulation operations that address and mitigate risks
  • Coordinate w/ Pumping Supervisors to monitor and deliver fracs operations
  • Monitor and analyze cost tracking against plans
  • Incorporate lessons learned into future procedures and document event based after action reviews for key events during operations
  • Provide engineering and technical support during critical well operations and as necessary during execution
  • Evaluation and implementation of technical innovations for continuous improvement of operational performance
  • Coordinate and monitor activities of primary contractors and third-party service providers to ensure acceptable contractual performance including SIO’s and end of well reporting
  • Generate equipment material lists and coordinate with Rig Advisor/ Materials Coordinator ahead of spud. Consult with Rig Advisor as they prepare for materials/equipment delivery to the well site
  • Drive appropriate QA/QC expectations with vendors during well design and delivery process with focus on one off and new technologies and tools. Work with CoP QA/QC lead to ensure vendors meet QA/QC requirements for all well construction material & equipment
  • Maintain timely communications with the key internal stakeholders

Qualifications

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or related field or foreign equivalent
  • 5+ years of combined experience in completions, well design or intervention
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to travel up to 10% to the rig for critical ops and to provide effective support on completions related ops such as stimulation
