What role you will play in our team

Job responsibilities will increase within the rail commercial rail space over time.  The Contract Manager role will be bidding, negotiating and creating agreements to purchase, lease and maintain railcars for the ExxonMobil rail fleet.  The role will work closely with the rail asset planning team, engineering and the railcar maintenance organization.  Ideally, candidates will also have insight into the drivers of rail freight with insights into Class I pricing strategies being highly valued.  The job is located in Houston, Texas officing from ExxonMobil’s Campus in Spring.

What you will do

The role will require large value RFQ’s to be conducted, contracts negotiated and executed as well as working closely wit the Category Manager to inform strategy and find ways to reduce the cost of railcar ownership.  The contract manager will also maintain a portfolio of agreements with Railcar manufacturers, lessors and repair shops.  The ability to form genuine relationships and partnerships will be crucial to success.

About you

Skills and Qualifications

Candidates should have at least 5 years of rail related work experience (some Class I preferred), a 4yr Bachelors degree (preferably in Supply Chain, Business or Engineering) and have the right to work in the US.  Candidates with multiple roles within the rail industry will be given preference.  Work history and experience in the rail industry will trump educational accoutrements.  Much of the success of this position resides in the ability to effectively network and create strong working relationships with suppliers and business partners.  Strong negotiation skills are a must.

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

• Experience working for a Class I RR
• Experience working for a Railcar Manufacturer or Lessor
• Exposure to railcar maintenance vendors (understand the basics of shopping a railcar)
• Experience negotiating contracts including a basic understanding of terms and conditions
• Understanding of the NA Rail network, OD pairs, car routing and rule 11 pricing
• A solid grasp of Microsoft Excel, Word and Powerpoint will be necessary for success in the role
