About Houston

ExxonMobil’s state-of-the-art campus north of Houston serves as home to its Upstream, Product Solutions and Low Carbon Solutions businesses and their associated service groups. The facility opened in 2014 and accommodates more than 10,000 employees and visitors.

What role you will play in our team

The Cost and Schedule Engineer (CSE), as part of the Cost & Schedule group, is a specialist in project estimating, schedule development, benchmark analysis, and/or project controls. Cost and Schedule Engineer will be primarily located in *USA* and will prepare cost and schedule estimates for Company operated and Operated by Others (OBO) projects for all Gate  and  Funding  milestones.  The  CSE  will  also  coordinate  the  preparation  of  Check Estimates  /  Schedules  to  compare  with  Operated  by  Others  (OBO)  Operator-prepared submittals and Estimate / Schedule assessments (verification of project cost & schedule bases).  The  CSE  will  also  provide  leadership and  consulting  to  the  Cost  and  Schedule Supervisor  on  the  direction  and  progressing  improvements  to  Cost  &  Schedule  Group process efficiency tools and quality assurance review improvements.

What you will do

  • Lead cost and schedule estimate development with project / business team input 
  • Prepare multi-disciplinary cost estimates for a variety of medium and large projects using appropriate tools and systems
  • Discuss,  coordinate,  and  resolve  estimating  input/queries  with  project  team  and  subject matter experts available in the organization to ensure quality estimate
  • Ensure all assumptions / clarifications are properly documented   Provide support for any selection and optimization study during project development
  • Support  project  team  in  identification,  evaluation  and  capture  of  capital  efficiency opportunities and estimate risks
  • Perform cost and/or schedule reconciliation to previous estimates as project develops
  • Perform  complete  analysis  and  cost/schedule  validations  using  internal  and  external benchmarking data, historical indices, and component benchmarking
  • Provide cost inputs into EPC contract strategy development, contract administration, and implementation
  • Track, assess, and advise the EPC contractor’s organization with respect to adequacy of project estimate
  • Review  and,  where  appropriate,  validate  cost  and  schedule  estimates  prepared  by Contractor
  • Identify and drive optimizations in cost and execution of projects
  • Participate  in  gathering  and  recording  lessons  learned  for  the  project  that  relate  to  cost and schedule areas

 

The role may also include:

  • Control and monitor project total expenditure including verifying and checking of invoices and  claims  from  suppliers,  vendors  and  subcontractors  to  ensure  that  all  project expenditures are captured and properly recorded.
  • Provide  planning  and  cost  controlling  support  for  all  projects  which  includes  variation reporting,  monitoring  of  milestone  progress  to  the  preparation  of  customer  billing processes, etc.
  • Ensure effective project implementation and utilize productive reports from the creation of WBS with the use of project management system to monitor the status of all purchases, invoicing and delivery up to the closure of the project

About You

Skills and Qualifications
 

  • Minimum 3 – 10 years’ prior experiences in oil and gas industry is preferred
  • Preferred 2 years’ experience in Cost and/or Schedule Estimating   
  • Strong influencing, consulting, mentoring, analytical, and computing skills   
  • Strong analytics, logical reasoning capabilities   
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and remoteness    
  • Ability to multitask and respond quickly to urgent analysis requests   
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Flexible to work on small to large size portfolio projects  
  • Flexible to travel to project sites if needed
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering

 

Preferred Skills 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, with GPA 3.5 or above   
  • Demonstrated work experience for client organizations: preferred in upstream, brownfield, and megaprojects (>$500M)   
  • Experience using cost and schedule tools such as ACCE, Microsoft Project or equivalent
