Midland Basin Overview
ConocoPhillips holds approximately 372,000 total net acres in the Midland Basin, which includes approximately 248,000 unconventional net acres located in the heart of west Texas. The company operates over 2,800 producing wells across Midland, Upton, Andrews, Martin and Glasscock counties.
In 2023, the company operated five drilling rigs on average, including two electric rigs. Net production in 2023 averaged 182 MBOED and 106 operated wells were brought online.

Description
Damage Prevention Technicians are ConocoPhillips source of identifying and marking buried pipelines, underground utility, and facility lines in the Permian Basin. AS a Damage Prevention Technician you are responsible for accurately marking all lines and completing One Call tickets submitted to state agencies within allotted time frames as specified by law. You will remain active in mapping infrastructure to prevent line strikes and streamline ticket completion for future ticket submission.
This position requires a good mechanical aptitude, good communication and teamwork skills, and the ability to coordinate multiple projects. Candidates with a general knowledge of oil and gas production equipment and operations will be given preference. The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities as well as other job-related duties that may develop.
This is a Safety Sensitive position.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures
- Implement stop-work authority to shut down operations deemed detrimental to the health and safety of people or the environment
- Perform a job safety analysis (JSA)
- Report unsafe acts and conditions, near misses, incidents and other unplanned events
- Attend and participate in required safety meetings and training classes
- Use, inspect and maintain appropriate / required safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Participate in audits and address any assigned findings with corrective actions
- Attend and participate in required excavation law training classes
- Ensure all lines are properly marked with the A.P.W.A Uniform Color Code System
- Coordinate third party crossings near ConocoPhillips infrastructure for observation
- Maintain right of way signage as necessary for existing lines
- Record and submit accurate timesheets and expense reports
- Maintain company line finding equipment in good working condition
- Maintain company vehicles in a clean and safe condition
- Manage contract vendors adequately
Basic/Required:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
- Meet DOT Operator Qualifications for Line Locating (OQ Certified)
- Current / Valid Driver’s License
- 1 or more years of experience of line locating and/or damage prevention
- Intermediate knowledge of FERC, PHMSA, and TX811 regulations
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft O365 applications: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, and Word
- Must be willing and able to perform job related duties in all weather conditions
Preferred:
- Successfully completed Excavation Competent Persons Training
- Intermediate proficiency with UtiliSphere and KorTerra applications
- Intermediate proficiency of GIS applications
- Ability to handle multiple projects
- Transmits information so it is received and understood in the way it was intended
- Responds resourcefully, flexibly, and positively when faced with challenges and demands
- Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what is right
