Alaska Overview
ConocoPhillips Alaska, Inc. is Alaska’s largest crude oil producer and largest owner of exploration leases, with approximately 1 million net undeveloped acres at year-end 2023. The company produced an average of 195 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day (MBOED) in 2023. ConocoPhillips Alaska holds major ownership interests in two of North America’s largest legacy equivalent per day conventional oil fields, both located on Alaska’s North Slope: Kuparuk, which the company operates, and Prudhoe Bay. Additionally, ConocoPhillips Alaska owns and operates several fields on the Western North Slope. The company also has an ownership interest in the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System and owns and operates the Polar Tankers fleet.
Job Description
The Data Engineer role within Alaska Digital Technologies (AKDT) in ConocoPhillips will be responsible for building data pipelines from source systems into the analytics environment with validation to allow creation and operations of analytical solutions and computational models.
Alaska BU (Business Unit) is undergoing a transformational data modernization initiative which will require refactoring legacy platforms and code to a modern technology stack. The initial focus of this role will be modernizing a business-critical Oracle database hosted on Unix leveraging Perl scripts for integration and transformation logic.
The role will also monitor, optimize, and support the development, test and production environments working closely with the database administrators, analytics architect, and IT (Information Technology) infrastructure support to ensure system availability.
This role will be proficient at integrating and preparing large, varied datasets including time series data and designing specialized database tables and information links within the environment. The person will work closely with engineers, data scientists, geo-scientists, project/program managers, and IT teams to provide clean and reliable data.
This role requires a strong and current technology focus, practical analytical experience, and excellent written and communications skills.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Develop, test, and manage data pipelines
- Collect, explore, validate, and condition data
- Collaborate with business subject matter experts and data scientists to create data sets and engineer features for analytical models
- Productionize and operationalize analytical models
- Adhere to ConocoPhillips’ governance and compliance policies for data and processes
- Monitor model performance
Basic/Required:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Math, Engineering, Statistics, Information Systems, Information Science, other related field, or foreign equivalent
- 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, Architect, or Database Administrator
- 3+ years experience with data visualization/analytics tools, RDBMS and Cloud DevOps and Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- 3+ years experience handling large volume operational data
- Advanced level of proficiency with one or more programming languages
- Advanced level of proficiency with SQL
- Advanced level of proficiency with Excel
- Intermediate level of knowledge of Python
Preferred:
- 1+ years experience as Oracle DBA
- 1+ years experience with Spotfire and Power BI
- 1 + years experience with Snowflake, Oracle hosted on Unix, Teradata and connecting to enterprise systems
- 1+ years experience with Azure, AWS (Cloud Formation, Terraform)
- 1+ years experience with Oil & Gas time series data feeds in combination with historical and unstructured data
- Advanced knowledge of Python, R, C++, Java and Perl
- Advanced verbal and written presentation skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively
- Intermediate understanding of project processes and methodology to support Project Management initiatives and delivery such as Scrum, Kanban, SAFe
- Open attitude towards and ability to learn and utilize modern technologies and standards
