Candidate Profile

Ideal Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Graduate of a U.S. Maritime Academy.
  • Five years of related experience in a marine environment, understanding demurrage rules or in a commercial environment requiring extensive analytical skills preferred. 
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, organization & time management are strong requirements.
  • Proficiency with accounting & Excel needed.
  • DOT Certification is a requirement but may be obtained while in this role.
  • Marine knowledge, a plus

Activities

The position ensures proper, accurate and timely processing of all marine demurrage claims related to all material groups, from an accounting and financial standpoint. 

  • Follow-up on ongoing/completed ship operations and compute the corresponding demurrage estimate.
  • Analyze, negotiate and process demurrage claims received from ship/barge owners or counterparties, and review these activities for chartered ships. Validate and process the corresponding invoices upon agreement. 
  • Identify, compute, claim, negotiate and agree the demurrage amounts that are to be rebilled to commercial counterparties and to terminals as per contracts in place. Raise the corresponding invoices upon agreement.
  • Follow-up the outstanding demurrage claims (both incoming claims and rebills) and ensure agreements are reached as diligently as possible. Carry out periodical reconciliations of outstanding demurrage claims with third parties.
  • Follow-up the payment of demurrage invoices raised for rebills.
  • Keep demurrage data up to date in information systems including DMS and SAP. Ensure proper recording of demurrage amounts in the information systems including month-end accruals for outstanding demurrage claims.
  • Ensure the recording of demurrage reasons in DMS.
  • Ensure proper filing of demurrage files for future reference.
  • Report on demurrage activity through KPIs and provide analysis of demurrage amounts upon request.
  • Provide proactive support to trading, operations and chartering personnel on demurrage matters (including training), and contribution to the identification of lessons learnt from past demurrage files.
  • Keep a database of general terms and conditions impacting demurrage. Follow-up the evolution of demurrage rules on the market and recommendation of adjustments to chartering conditions.

Context & Environment

As a Demurrage Analyst you will work directly with ATMI Shipping and Demurrage groups, BTP Commercial and the RSTO Supply Coordinators, RSTO Operations Coordinators, Downstream Accounting, and Credit Department. In order to facilitate communication with the team you will work in an open office environment.
