We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Electrical and Instrumentation Technician within our Taft Plant located in Hahnville, LA.
- Maintain protection of the environment and the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate and/or transport our products, as our highest priority.
- Install, maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, repair and perform preventative maintenance on all plant instrumentation, control systems, analyzers and electrical and refrigeration equipment.
- Responsible for prompt and accurate diagnosis of minor problems and the implementation of corrective action. Consult directly with equipment vendors on problems for resolution as necessary.
- Set up and operate limited types of shop tools and specialized test, measuring equipment and hand tools utilized in any phase of machine installation or maintenance.
- Capable of installing various types of conduit, wiring, lighting fixtures, cable trays, tubing, and other numerous types of electrical equipment by various manufacturers. Also includes power and control circuit installations.
- Be able to test, study, and evaluate electrical control problems, determine necessary repairs, and procure materials required to affect a repair.
- Be able to study, test, and evaluate electrical problems with power distribution systems, transformers, switchgear, rectifiers, software programs for rectifiers, motor control centers, generators, DCS Software, etc. Develop a plan of repair, procure materials, and affect necessary repairs and return to service.
- Utilize electrical power, control drawings, and files. Maintain historical records on relays, power meters, PLCs, transformers, rectifiers, etc.
- Test and evaluate new and/or revisions of software for PLCs.
- Troubleshoot and repair jumper switches, electric chain hoists, cell house cranes, and battery chargers/PM battery chargers.
- Miscellaneous oil samples on transformers, solder water leaks, install high voltage splices, terminate stress cones, and operate aerial lifts and forklifts.
- Have knowledge of 230kv transmission lines, 230kv gas circuit breakers, 4160 and 2300 motor starters, 480v transformers, 120v equipment, and 13,800 switchgear and breakers.
- Have knowledge of DCS logic, Hart Technology, various computers/laptops software programs in reference to Instrumentation Technology and PLCs, Interlok systems, Enteletrac Software utilization, flow, level pressure, temperature, mass, flow, and density.
- Test, study, and evaluate control problems with numerous types of manufacturers of instrumentation. Determine necessary repairs and procure materials required to affect a repair.
- Design, install, troubleshoot, loop, and understand new instrumentation, DCS systems (FTA/lop cards), vibration technology, control valves, fiber optic and serial interface technology.
- Make necessary changes/updates to PM’s Instrument Database, loop drawings, and write new PMs.
- Capable of repairing, removing, installing new refrigeration equipment/tanks/compressors as necessary including following the proper lifting procedures individually and with cranes and/or other equipment.
- Utilize control and system drawings and historical files on all systems and HVAC units to calibrate PSI switches, control valves, PSI transmitter actuators for vanes, set timers, control valves for hot gas,
- Properly drop/add a Freon and/or other refrigerant oil change from/to numerous types of refrigeration equipment; and follow the proper disposal procedures including proper paperwork and drum disposal
- Have the ability to do other miscellaneous refrigeration tasks including pulling vacuum, soldering, clean out systems, acidize water, and hook up materials for testing, etc.
- Have knowledge to maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate sulfite, caustic, and chlorine analyzers, monitors, Siemens Maxum II Gas Chromatographs, and Tytronics hardness.
- Design and prepare sampling systems for various analyzers and standards in a lab.
- Understand analyzer and calibration software systems to help with troubleshooting and read loop drawings, flow sheets, etc.
- Review new work requests, develop a plan to implement repairs, and order necessary materials to complete the work including the use of SAP. Complete proper paperwork for scheduler/planner to re-schedule work once all material is on site.
- Participates in the event of a Hurricane with the Hurricane Squad, has the ability to be on Stand-by Coverage during off hours, and other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
- Participates and accepts responsibility for meeting plant and individual PSM goals and monthly spreadsheet responsibilities as required by HESP-610 Procedure.
- Actively participates in plant’s Health, Environmental, Safety, and Security (HESS) programs to assure a safe and environmentally sound workplace.
- Assumes accountability for meeting plant safety goals and various other requirements including training, work permits, critical items inspections, job observations, housekeeping, reporting hazards and issues, and working safely in job assignments.
- Actively participates in safety meetings and various other HESS programs while promoting safety through offering recommendations to other employees on working safely.
- Supports and fulfills the requirements of the plant’s ISO Quality System.
- Completes the necessary activities to comply with the requirements of Routine Maintenance Work Processes procedures and guidelines.
- Completes any miscellaneous tasks and additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Education or GED required.
- Five (5) years process instrumentation/electrical maintenance experience in industry OR two (2) years maintenance experience in industry and Associates Degree in Instrumentation or Electrical Technology
- Must be proficient in troubleshooting using loop drawing, schematics, ladder logic, electrical one-line, and P&I drawings.
- Proficient in maintaining process control loops, electronic controls, valves, and transmitters.
- NCCER certification in either electrical or instrumentation required.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- High proficiency in Microsoft applications.
- Ability to read, write and speak in English.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.
- Physical requirements – Must be able to lift 40 lbs, climb ladders and stairs. Walking, bending, stooping is required. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator. Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.
Additional Desired Qualifications
- Additional chemical plant or manufacturing experience is preferred. Experience with high voltage systems (115KV, 13.8KV, 4160V), circuit breakers, motor starters, relaying, cable terminations and repairs, with an understanding of HIPOT, TTR, Phasing and Meggar testing preferred.
- Good working knowledge of SAP
