JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB PURPOSE:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mining Engineer to join our team. The Mining Engineer will be for designing, developing, and implementing efficient mining systems and processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of mining principles.

Reporting to the Manager, Technical Services, the Mining Engineer , manages a staff of geologists, hydrologists, and technicians. The mining engineer is responsible for day to day operational geology, dewatering drilling, development drilling and exploration programs. 

The Mining Engineer ensures the safe execution of day to day operational geology group including ore control and blending. The successful candidate will also ensure the continued development and tracking of the mine management program. In addition, the Mining Engineer will oversee site exploration and development drill programs including coordination and collection of geological and survey data, proper sample protocol, Quality Control/Quality Assurance and development and updates to the geologic models. 

 

Job Specific Accountabilities

  • Conduct research to develop and improve mining methods, equipment, and processes.
  • Design and oversee mining infrastructure, such as tunnels, shafts, and ventilation systems.
  • Develop plans for safe and efficient mining operations, including the selection and coordination of equipment.
  • Evaluate and analyze geological data to determine the quality, quantity, and location of mineral deposits.
  • Monitor and manage mining operations to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Estimate costs and prepare budgets for mining projects.
  • Collaborate with geologists and other professionals to identify and evaluate potential mining sites.
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize production and minimize downtime and operational costs.
  • Supervise and train mining technicians and other operational staff.
  • Conduct technical studies and prepare reports to assess the feasibility and profitability of mining projects.

 

 

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  •  Proven experience in mining operations, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.
  •  Strong knowledge of mining principles, practices, and regulations.
  •  Proficient in using mining software and programs.
  •  Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  •  Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  •  Ability to work effectively in a team and mentor junior engineers.
  •  Good communication and presentation skills.
  •  Ability to adapt to changing work environments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  •  Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations in the mining industry.
  • Specialize Experience: Applicants must possess one 10 full year of specialized experience with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Mining Engineer, especially for brines minerals like Lithium and Magnesium.
  • Specialized experience includes serving as a senior specialist performing work in minerals exploration, development & production activities such as review/prepare exploration plans or the extraction of minerals, evaluate mineral resources, inspect mining operations & reclamation activities. 
  • This position has a positive education requirement which requires that you have a degree in professional engineering.
    The curriculum must: be in a school of engineering/ include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics:

(a) statics, dynamics;

(b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships);

(c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics;

(d) thermodynamics;

(e) electrical fields and circuits;

(f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and

(g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

a combination of education and experience – college level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished:

(1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and

(2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. 

 PREFERRED EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:

  • Master of Science Degree in Engineering, Engineering Geology or related field.
  • The successful candidate must have a minimum of 10+ years’ mining experience in open pit Minerals operations, strong supervisory experience, and a background in exploration. 
  • Study of Minerals and deposits.
  • Managing drilling programs.
  • Experience with engineering and economic criteria used for mining/processing of Minerals deposits via open pit methods.

 

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work with minimum supervision.
  • Functional knowledge of multiple resource calculation methods, exploration programs, and UAE geology are all preferred.
  • Significant experience working with mine planning software (preferably MinePlan). 
  • Significant experience working with databases (preferably AcQuire).
  • Proficiency in spatial software (ArcGIS preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Significant experience working with presentation software (preferably Power Point).
  • Ability to operate light vehicles.

 

 PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Field site visits are necessary and the candidate must be capable of site inspections that may include hiking over rough terrain.
  • Overnight travel may be required.

Data Management:

  • Performs the QA/QC of technical data, interpreted and/or processed by the service companies.
  • Supports senior in data management activities including organizing and archiving of geological data and interpretation results in the corporate database.

 

Studies:

  • Uses feedback from structural geologist to validate technical interpretation(s).  
  • Contributes to the preparation of internal technical reports. 
  • Participate in technical conferences and workshops, and contribute in publishing technical papers.
  • Operations:
  • Contributes in planning and follow-up of surface and borehole geological data gathering programs with the support of the senior geophysicist and subject matter specialists.

Supervision

  • No supervision role but participates in team discussions in order to help the ream meeting the functional objectives.

 

Budgets

  • Observe the required for the preparation of the Function / Division / Department / Section budgets, assist in the implementation of the approved Budget, and work plans to deliver business objectives.
  • Observe the investigation for any significant variances to support effective performance and cost control.

  • Implement approved Function/ Division/ Department/ Section policies, processes, systems, standards and procedures in order to support execution of the work programs in line with Company and International standards.

  • Contribute to the achievement of the approved Performance Objectives for the Function/ Division / Department/ Section in line with the Company Performance framework.

 

Innovation and Continuous Improvement

  • Contributes in the implementation of new tools and techniques to improve the quality and efficiency of operational processes.
  • Work closely with the senior geophysicist in order to identify improvements in internal processes against best practices in pursuit of greater efficiency in line with best industry standards in order to define intelligent solutions for issues confronting the function.

  • Comply with relevant HSE policies, procedures, controls, applicable legislation, and sustainability guidelines in line with international standards, best practices and company Code of Practices.

 

Reports

  • Provide inputs to prepare progress reports for Company Management.
