Job Description:

Our client, a leading player in the mining and minerals sector, is looking for a skilled Environmental Advisor to oversee biodiversity and land management initiatives, ensure regulatory compliance, and support mine rehabilitation efforts. The role involves managing environmental contractors, implementing sustainability strategies, and maintaining stakeholder engagement in an environmentally responsible operation.

Responsibilities:

• Manage contractors handling biodiversity and land management activities.
• Oversee wetland restoration and offset development initiatives.
• Develop and implement an annual operational plan for invasive species control, fire management, and land maintenance.
• Implement effective SHE management systems for own job and for the section.
• Update and report on Environmental risk assessment on a regional level.
• Support mine planners with rehabilitation strategies and biodiversity conservation.
• Maintain environmental policies, conduct audits, and provide compliance guidance.
• Engage with stakeholders and manage reporting requirements.
• Manage environmental budgets and implement service performance improvements.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

• Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences, Ecology, Biology, Botany, or equivalent (NQF 7).
• Postgraduate qualification (NQF 8) advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of NEMA, NEMBA, and related environmental regulations.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in Biodiversity and Land Management (Mandatory).
• Experience in mine rehabilitation, land use planning, protected areas, biodiversity offsets, and wetland management (Mandatory).
• Extensive hands-on biodiversity management experience within production landscapes is an advantage.
