About Houston

 

ExxonMobil’s state-of-the-art campus north of Houston serves as home to its Upstream, Product Solutions and Low Carbon Solutions businesses and their associated service groups. The facility opened in 2014 and accommodates more than 10,000 employees and visitors.

What role you will play in our team

 

  • As an Environmental and Regulatory Advisor, you will be helping our teams develop and implement key strategies to meet regulatory compliance and manage risks to the environment and the communities in which we operate. You will interface with multi-functional teams and be the primary point of contact for regulatory agency engagement and environmental contractor management. As a leader, you will define roles and responsibilities for your team members and steward their work to successful completion.
  • This position is located at our campus in Spring, TX.
  • This role may require regional (or occasionally, international) travel up to 50% of the time. 

 

What you will do

 

  • Implement existing corporate environmental management standards for new Low Carbon Solutions projects.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain project-specific regulatory roadmaps and compliance plans.
  • Interface with the project teams and third-party consultants to identify and assess environmental risks.
  • Develop appropriate management plans to mitigate identified risks.
  • Collaborate with execution, socioeconomic, and public and government affairs teams to inform project area stakeholders about field activities (e.g., environmental and cultural surveys).
  • Contribute to environmental, regulatory, and socioeconomic advocacy efforts.
  • Manage third-party consultants providing support to projects.
  • Direct field surveys and work in support of site selection, permit applications, and project execution.
  • Review data and reports, and communicate outcomes to relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide subject matter expert advice to various internal stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation to continuously improve internal processes.
     

About You

 

Skills and Qualifications

 

  • B.S. with at least 5 years of equivalent work experience in environmental permitting. Experience should consist of direct supervision over environmental permitting efforts across a large geographical area.
  • Have established professional relationships with local, state, and federal agencies regarding environmental permitting, specifically with Clean Water Act Section 404 and the River and Harbors Section 10 requirements.
  • At least 5 years of project management experience serving in a leadership capacity, specifically developing and managing cross-functional teams
  • At least 5 years of experience in managing contractors, which includes developing scopes of work, evaluating proposals, and managing the contractors to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget.
  • Ability to analyze new or changing regulations or standards and coordinate with internal stakeholders to develop business strategies to address potential changes. 
  • Effective time management and excellent organizational skills to support, in parallel, rapidly evolving projects and teams in various project phases.
  • Expert in conducting environmental and regulatory risk assessments and communicating the results to a wide range of end users.
  • Experience working with leadership teams and serving as an advisor on environmental and regulatory matters.
  • Ability to self-manage to deliver projects on time.
  • Ability to assess and understands how to communicate risks of a project to line management.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, teamwork, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work on rapidly evolving projects in an ever-changing environment. 
  • Familiarity with Project Management software and ArcGIS Pro (or similar).

 

Preferred Qualifications / Experience

 

  • M.S. preferred with 3+ years of work experience in environmental permitting.
  • At least 10 years of experience in environmental and regulatory program management.
  • At least 10 years of experience in environmental permitting in U.S. Gulf Coast Region.
  • At least 5 years of social engagement experience with the public or Tribal communities in the U.S. Gulf Coast.
  • At least 5 years of experience designing environmental projects for various market sectors.
  • At least 5 years managing and directly developing, implementing, and evaluating short-term and long-term plans, policies, systems, and procedures to achieve and support team, client, and business line objectives, while upholding company core values.
  • Working knowledge of carbon capture and storage (CCS) regulations.
  • Served in a leadership capacity during a period of rapid growth for a company. 
  • Experience building and leading efficient and high-performing teams.
  • Wetland mitigation, watershed implementation plan, or strategic assessment plan experience.
  • Experience working on environmental, social governance (ESG) projects and the sustainability reporting metrics used.
