Midland Basin Overview

ConocoPhillips holds approximately 372,000 total net acres in the Midland Basin, which includes approximately 248,000 unconventional net acres located in the heart of west Texas. The company operates over 2,800 producing wells across Midland, Upton, Andrews, Martin and Glasscock counties.

In 2023, the company operated five drilling rigs on average, including two electric rigs. Net production in 2023 averaged 182 MBOED and 106 operated wells were brought online.

Description

As a Financial Analyst in this position, you are responsible for assisting the asset team with annual capital and operation budget planning, forecasting, and reporting. You will capture, analyze, and report monthly financial results to support both Asset and organizational goals. Additionally, you will assist with data automation, visualization, and integration. You will be a key liaison between the Asset Team and the Finance and Planning teams.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Actively monitor and report on Asset scorecard to benchmark activities
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports to align with the company’s internal and external reporting requirements, including variance analysis
  • Prepare monthly accruals and present to finance team and asset management
  • Assist in building reports and/or analytical dashboards using Business Intelligence software such as Power BI, SAP and/or Spotfire when applicable
  • Participate in development of monthly and annual budgets and long-range planning cycles, and provide benchmarking to compare/evaluate how Asset executes on production, operating costs, and capital expenditures
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and additional projects or tasks as assigned by Supervisor to fulfill business needs
  • Support operations personnel during S/4HANA implementation
  • Support BCC pipeline operations team with invoicing and other financial questions

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, related field, or foreign equivalent
  • 3 or more years of SAP experience
  • 3 or more years of experience in a technical or reporting analysis role
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft O365 applications: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, and Word

Preferred:

  • 3 or more years of experience of working with an oil and gas operations team
  • 1 or more years of experience of crafting visualizations for analysis using a variety of business intelligence tools such as Spotfire, Power BI, and SAP
  • 1 or more years of experience of supporting operations
  • Intermediate knowledge of major financial/operational value drivers in the E&P industry with the ability to quickly grasp key aspects of asset modeling
  • Ability to work independently, problem solve, multi-task, and be self-motivated
  • Ability to understand business needs and maintain good relationships with a multiple discipline team
  • Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously under tight deadlines
  • Invites dialog to gain a shared understanding and influences with confidence to drive performance and achieve business results
  • Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what is right
  • Builds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
