Overview

Saudi Aramco is seeking a Senior Geophysicist or Geophysical Engineer to work with the Gas Storage Division of the Gas Strategy and Technical Support Department under the Gas Development Admin Department arm of Petroleum Engineering & Development Admin Area (Upstream Business Line).

 

As Gas Storage Geophysicist/Geophysical Engineer, you will be responsible of monitoring underground gas storage reservoirs. You will monitor the integrity and safety of underground gas storage assets and operations through devising plans and analyzing and interpreting subsurface geological and geophysical data. You should be able to liaise effectively with different stakeholders to maintain high operational excellence. You should also have the expertise to set up and run real-time seismic monitoring centers for underground gas storage fields. You should also be able to provide guidance and oversight on best-in-class seismic and micro seismic interpretations, practices and state-of-the art- technologies for all Saudi Aramco hydrocarbon gas assets. You should have the mentoring capacity to develop and train young professionals and participate in the company engineering standards, procedures & guidelines reviews.

Key Responsibilities

•    Provide guidance and oversight on best-in-class seismic and micro seismic interpretations, practices and state-of-the art- technologies for all Saudi Aramco hydrocarbon assets.
•    Setting up and running real-time seismic monitoring centers for underground gas storage fields.
•    Design and oversee seismic data acquisition.
•    Monitor real-time micro seismic data and identify critical events; update management in a timely manner.
•    Act as technical advisor to management regarding best practices for the acquisition, analysis, interpretation and integration of seismic data.
•    Work with multiple Saudi Aramco departments to execute all phases of technology development process including technical justification, contracting, project management, milestone evaluations, field trials, deployment and commercialization.
•    Lead and participate in multidisciplinary teams.
•    Organize collaboration & teamwork by providing appropriate support within own area of expertise.
•    Constantly keep up-to-date on new geophysical technology by reading technical journals, attending technical meetings, or through outside professional contacts.
•    Represent Saudi Aramco in external technical contacts with consultants, and vendors, etc.
•    Participate in technical societies and technical groups.
•    Create & Innovate by continuously generating new ideas, methods, products and solutions
•    Search for opportunities and solutions in geophysics acquisition technology that can bring significant value to Saudi Aramco.
•    Train and mentor young geophysicists and engineers.

 

Minimum Requirements

•    Bachelor degree in Geophysics or related discipline from a recognized and approved program. MSc or PhD is desirable, but not required. 
•    Minimum of 15 years of related experience including at least 7 years specializing in geophysics and micro seismic interpretation of gas/gas condensate fields. A training history of appropriate specialized courses and seminars is expected. Technical publications are valued but in-depth practical experience is paramount. Setting up and running real time seismic monitoring centers is an added advantage.

•    You should have:
o    Experience in surface and borehole seismic acquisition for deep or shallow targets —required. 
o    Some knowledge of distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) for seismic imaging and monitoring and/or borehole geophysics —beneficial. 
o    Expertise in land seismic acquisition —essential. 
o    Experience with sensors and robotics —desired but not required. 
o    Data processing skills in both downhole and surface seismic and analysis.
o    Good understanding of seismic signal processing and proven ability translate these skills in to improved integrated solutions incorporating novel acquisition techniques. 
o    Basic knowledge of seismic inversion and interpretation.
o    Some experience with geophysical methods for near surface characterization (seismic, GPR, etc.) —required.
o    Knowledge of the latest developments in seismic technology through work experience, patents, conferences, seminars, and papers in professional journals.
o    Some knowledge in reservoir geomechanics.
o    Programming experience (C/C++, Matlab, Python etc.) —preferred. 
o    Knowledge of Machine Learning approaches and their applications for analysis —desired. 
o    Ability to interact and communicate clearly with specialists in petroleum engineering, geology, petrophysics, simulation, drilling, completion, production and facilities.
o    Hands-on experience in micros seismic monitoring, geophysics interpretation, open-hole and cased-hole logs and geological modeling.
o    Expertise in using modern seismic interpretation of gas and gas condensate reservoirs.
o    Basic knowledge of oil and natural gas gathering/processing/transmission/storage operations.
o    Basic knowledge of design and construction of gathering/processing/transmission/storage assets.
o    Basic knowledge of industry standards for safe, reliable and the cost-effective operation and maintenance of engineered systems and works requiring engineering supervision.
o    Some knowledge of production engineering, reservoir engineering and downhole well completions best practices.
o    Ability to communicate effectively in speech and writing.
o    Ability to motivate self, accomplish tasks and achieve goals.
o    Ability to identify solutions to problems with creativity and innovative thinking.
o    Ability to distill data and analysis into high-level reports and summaries.
o    Ability to demonstrate effective project management and time management to meet project deadlines.
o    Ability to manage multiple projects with shifting priorities.
o    Ability to make sound decisions based on engineering and mathematical principles.
o    Ability to work independently
o    Ability to work within stringent deadlines.
