Job Description:

Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Mining Leader. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of company mining operations, ensuring production is met, turnover, and margin targets while upholding the highest safety standards.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee the development of staff by ensuring employment and training opportunities reflect company and staff needs.
• Identify and procure competent staff as required by Business Unit Plan or Succession Plan.
• Participate and provide Strategic guidelines to company Director and personnel reporting to this position.
• Ensure safe and efficient operation of the business through proactive management of the employees, procedures and processes.
• Ensure company HSE&Q standards are incorporated into the workplace.
• Ensure mining works are conducted in accordance with Business Unit Plan (BUP).
• Ensure the setting of realistic programs at BUP and planning stages.
• Ensure site programs meet budget targets and contract requirements in accordance with Business Plan.
• Review the effectiveness of the weekly and the monthly plan with the mining team (in-house and with the client)
• Attend all required meetings and ensure that daily targets are provided to the operations teams.
• Ensure subcontractor procurement is in accordance with Contracts and company guidelines.
• Ensure subcontractor performance is monitored and meets required performance standards.
• Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, statutory obligations and company policy.
• Manage claims situations so client relationship is preserved

Key Performance Metrics (including not limited to)

• Achievement of business plan turnover and profit targets
• Overheads at completion meet budget.
• Productivity to exceed BUP.
• Hours of Equipment within BUP
• Limit excess costs from BUP
• LTIFR <1
• Productivity of Production Equipment > 90% Budget
• Subcontractor Procurement and Performance (e.g. Explosives Suppliers, Machine OEM)

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

• A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a similar position in an Open pit environment (preferably gold)
• Degree in Mining engineering
• Relevant Mining or Quarry Managers certification.
• Strong knowledge of drilling, explosives and blasting techniques
• Strong Knowledge in Earthworks, Heavy Mining Equipment and Trucks & Shovels Mining operations
• Significant experience in the financial aspects of mining such as cost control, budgeting and ROI
• Good knowledge in Geology, Geotechnics and Topography
• General Technical (maintenance) knowledge in Mining Equipment
• Exposure to the challenges of operating in remote sites and in particular developing countries.
