The Discipline Manager Piping, Valves and Connectors (P,V&C) is responsible for developing the Discipline in line with business needs and ensuring technical competence for the execution of studies, tenders and projects within their technical area of responsibility.
This is a GPC (Global Project Centre) wide role within the Design & Analysis Team, covering all GPC offices. This role involves a balance of discipline management alongside providing expertise to Projects, Tenders, FEEDs, and COE. The DM will be supported by Deputy Discipline Manager(s).
Technical Responsibilities
- Project Delivery:
- Deliver technical design scopes relevant to the discipline in accordance with the requirements of the Business Management System. Includes participation in problem solving and checking adequacy of resources.
- Identify, mitigate and manage technical risk, and participate in project reviews as deemed required.
- Review and validate project technical documents, as required.
- Ensure project fitness-for-purpose, legislative compliance and adherence to project budget & schedule.
- Ensure compliance to standardised engineering policies, processes and systems such that engineering across the Discipline is effective and quality driven
- Knowledge Management:
- Maintain past project knowledge, discipline standards and discipline technical skills
- Stay up to date with latest technologies, equipment, techniques and codes/standards within the discipline to maintain Subsea 7 competitiveness. Support technology developments / studies as required.
- Improve and develop the team efficiency in terms of project delivery (MCO) and predictability.
- Focal point for COE and Continuous Improvement within the Discipline
- Subsea 7 Group:
- Support other regions on technical topics to develop a collaborative model.
- Digitalisation:
- Drive and support the delivery of digitalisation initiatives across Engineering
Business Responsibilities
- Support the Snr Discipline Manager in the provision of resources and resource planning for all discipline activities/services on studies, tenders and projects, producing adequate CTRs for these activities, as required.
- Participate to the recruitment of personnel in accordance with the resource plan.
Personal Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain a positive and proactive working environment that encourages team working, a spirit of openness, honesty and integrity.
- Actively engage on technical and personal growth of all team members across offices
- Support retention of discipline engineers by delivering on appropriate strategies.
- Manage team members: participate to Compass process, training and development processes, support Graduate Engineer Development Scheme (GEDS).
What experience we would like you to have?
- Technical and operational experience and knowledge within the discipline with an extended capability of application.
- Extensive experience and knowledge of piping design for subsea structures, pipe stress analysis, component selection, piping materials, design codes and analysis techniques.
- Extensive experience and knowledge of the requirements of subsea valves and connector types – specifically those frequently utilised within Subsea 7’s core products. This includes design aspects, design codes and specifications.
- Commercial awareness – ensuring high-value packages are subject to value engineering to minimise cost whilst maintaining compliance.
- Experience of successfully leading engineering teams, coordinating resources and technical deliverables against deadlines.
- Proactively manage interfaces with multiple disciplines including structures, CAD, MWC, quality engineers and supply chain
- Ability to identify cost, risk and opportunity to ensure MCO is maintained and highlighting when this is challenged to project and discipline management.
- Extended capability in managing self – time management, setting priorities, thinking creatively, making decisions under uncertain conditions, etc.
- Ability in resource planning to meet resourcing requirements.
- Extended capability in developing working relationships through effective communication.
- Extended capability and willingness to motivate, train and develop others.
- Understand clients’ needs; independently evaluate, organise strategy to better support them.
- Good communication skills – able to communicate ideas and results to various stakeholders.
- Degree in Engineering
