Bakken Overview
The Bakken trend is a sequence of liquids-rich sand and shale layers in the Williston Basin, which stretches across western North Dakota and into Canada. The company’s position in the Bakken development area is comprised of approximately 560,000 net acres, which include 382,000 net mineral acres and 178,000 net leasehold acres. The company focuses on unconventional tight-oil play development and production in the most prolific portion of the basin.
During 2022, net production averaged 95 MBOED. There were 43 operated wells brought online during 2022, bringing the total to more than 800 operated wells online at year-end.

Description
If you are selected as the Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Technician, you will provide operations with day-to-day troubleshooting and technical support for all instrument and electrical equipment within the Bakken asset area. Instrumentation and Electrical services are a critical piece of the ongoing operations and maintenance of the Bakken Asset. You will be responsible for working safely at all times, swiftly completing I&E maintenance work orders, troubleshooting issues that arise on well locations, checking functionality of instruments, and ensuring automation is properly executing programs as defined in cause and effects. You will work closely with a team of technicians, specialists, & leads, engineering, and operations in support of these field assets.
This position can be based in Dickinson, North Dakota or Watford City, North Dakota.
This is a Safety Sensitive position.
Responsibilities may include:
- Compliance with all applicable DOT and OSHA regulations, and safety policies and procedures
- Perform all duties of this position with a focus on safety, environmental protection, and regulatory compliance
- Install, inspect, maintain, operate, troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate various instrumentation, electrical, and controls equipment. Along with completing all appropriate documentation associated with the duties
- Perform preventative maintenance checks on I&E equipment associated with Well sites and Central Facilities and complete associated paperwork accurately and in a timely manner
- Communicate findings of issues to ensure root cause of failures are realized and shared with team members
- Build inventive and effective solutions based on available information and make timely decisions that are safe and ethical
- Provide support for commissioning of new equipment and facilities by performing loop/logic checks
- Create and respond to SAP notifications and process work orders
- Drive collaboration throughout the area of responsibility
- Maintain current and accurate documentation of maintenance activities
- Minimize downtime and unsafe conditions by performing preventative and predictive maintenance
- Maintain technical and administrative records, including prints and project reports
- Pursue cost reduction opportunities
- Be on call; respond to emergencies and maintain emergency response preparedness
- Complete and maintain required safety/regulatory training
Basic/Required:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
- Current/valid driver’s license
- Basic level of technical knowledge and training to maintain instrument and electrical equipment
- 1+ years of experience with low, medium, and high voltage circuits
- Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following: Climb various ladders and stairs up to 50 feet in height to perform maintenance on equipment; Raise and transport articles weighing up to 50 pounds; Walk, stand, stoop, sit, climb, and carry material on a daily basis on even and uneven terrain; Work outside in harsh weather conditions; Work alone a high percentage of the time; Wear personal protective equipment (PPE); Be on call; Work unscheduled overtime; Work a rotational schedule
Preferred:
- Intermediate level of knowledge of National Electric Codes
- Intermediate level of knowledge of electronic test instruments
- Intermediate level of knowledge in process controls with oil and gas processing devices and process
- Intermediate knowledge in Scada Applications
- Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft O365 applications: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams and Word
- Basic level of knowledge of Electrical plot plans and electrical area classifications
- Basic level of proficiency applying and interpreting results from common electrical measurement instruments (voltmeter, ammeter, ohmmeter, oscilloscope, etc.)
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair problems with VFDs (Allen Bradley, Lufkin, Apergy, Fuji, Summit, Schlumberger, & Baker Hughes)
- Builds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
- Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what’s right
- Delivers results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
