Job Summary
Current internship positions are available in Alaska, Lower 48, or Global Technical Function organizations.
Our internships provide opportunities to learn and apply engineering skills. Successful candidates will receive diversified training through on-the-job assignments using the technical skills acquired in college. Assigned projects will develop the interns both technically and professionally. Each intern will be assigned a technical mentor and supervisor to ensure a productive and engaging assignment.
Interns are typically matched to one of the Upstream disciplines including Reservoir, Production, Facilities, Drilling, Completions, Projects, or Electrical Engineering. Within that discipline, the intern will be responsible for completing one or more projects during the summer. As an example, past projects have included developing improved forecasting techniques for unconventional reservoirs, artificial lift optimization, facility design modifications to improve air quality, drill bit design/selection, sand production mitigation and infrastructure benchmarking. The intern will work within established engineering and/or operations teams.
Job Description
The Engineering internship assignment locations will vary based on Phase 1 and Phase 2 internships.
- Phase 1 Internships are for students with two summers remaining before graduation (Sophomores, Juniors). Assignment locations include Kenedy or Midland, Texas, Dickinson, North Dakota, or Anchorage, Alaska.
- Phase 2 Internships are for students with one summer remaining before graduation. Assigned projects are typically based in Houston or Midland, Texas, or Anchorage, Alaska
The 2025 summer internship program will be 10 – 11 continuous weeks. You may be eligible for the voluntary hybrid office work (HOW) program designed to provide employees with flexibility while maintaining the advantages of in-person engagement. The HOW program eligibility is dependent on the specific internship group and schedule you would be working in during the summer internship.
Basic/Required:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer and/or education institution
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering or foreign equivalent
- Current level in college: Sophomore through Senior or Graduate Student
- Expected graduation date: Fall 2025 through Spring/Fall 2027
- Available for internship starting mid to late May 2025
- A minimum of ten (10) continuous weeks availability for internship
Preferred:
- Willing to work in either of these locations: Houston, Kenedy, or Midland, Texas, Dickinson, North Dakota or Anchorage, Alaska.
- A minimum cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Previous internships or co-ops in an energy related field
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Develops strong relationships based on trust and seeks opportunities to collaborate across the matrix/organizational boundaries to achieve business goals
- Demonstrates taking ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by courageously dealing with important problems, holding others accountable and standing up for what is right
- Demonstrates an understanding of how key financial and quantitative indicators impact the business
