DESCRIPTION AND SCOPE 

​​SLB develops inflatable packers for the analysis of subsurface characteristics. These products are made of rubber, with metal reinforcements and technical fibers. 

There is currently no finite element modelling solution for these structures. 

The aim of this internship is to initiate the building of a representative model of an inflatable packer. The ultimate goal is to anticipate the performance limits of these products, in temperature, pressure, and in the presence of geometric irregularities. 

 

Ultimately, breakage criteria will be integrated into the packer calculation, in order to anticipate product failures according to the conditions of use. 

This effort should provide tools to subsequently model any new product, and to optimize the number of tests required and their nature for the validation of any new design. 

 

The person will be in contact with the engineering, manufacturing and sustaining team. He/she will have access to a test laboratory to characterize the different components of packers. They will have access to full-scale tests and data from products used in the field
