About the Role

Are you looking for a rewarding career in the oil and gas industry?

Santos is on the lookout for an Irrigation Operations Team Lead to lead our dynamic team of field staffs conducting irrigation operational work which includes contractors and resources to ensure the continued and reliable operation of irrigation systems.

This role is based at Roma and will see you implement beneficial use of coal seam water with minimal harm to soils and surrounding ecosystem, and the agronomic and soils management of CSG irrigated plantations and pastures to maintain long term soil and plant health.

Key accountabilities include:  

  • Leadership of field staff conducting irrigation operational work.
  • Management of irrigation and agricultural contractors.
  • After hours and weekend management of urgent issues for the regional agricultural operations.
  • Provision specialist skills and knowledge with respect to centre pivot and drip irrigation systems.
  • Provision of agronomic skills and knowledge with respect to soil salinity/sodicity, pasture/plantation management and machinery operations
  • Provide advice on sustainable grazing management or crop harvesting activities to support water uptake through forage crops.
  • Interact positively with other Santos teams working in the field.

About You

To stand out for this role, it is essential that you have demonstrated skills and experience in: 

  • Extensive experience in front line management of field teams
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and experience in the maintenance and operation of pressurised irrigation systems
  • Demonstrated experience operating and maintaining agricultural type plant and equipment
  • Evidence of working in a structured workplace with a strong emphasis on safety.
  • Evidence of a facilitative and inclusive leadership style with a record of building strong positive relationships with stakeholders. Desired experience for this position includes:
  • Design, installation and maintenance of pressurised irrigation systems Maintenance and operation of control systems for pump stations and irrigation systems
  • Experience in soil, pasture and livestock management

It is essential that you have Diploma/Trade level qualifications in water, agriculture, mechanisation, control systems or related field experience. Relevant Industry Qualifications in Irrigation, agronomy, control systems or related field is highly desirable.
