We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Licensing Technical Service Manager within our Technology organization. The work location is at our VCM plant in LaPorte, Texas.
Essential Job Duties:
This position assists in the successful implementation of VCM Licensing contracts, particularly the successful implementation of a licensee plant start-up and any subsequent performance guarantee demonstration runs. This position also has the primary responsibility of technology and know-how exchange with licensees. Additional responsibilities include providing technical support to the Catalyst business, the VCM business, and VCM plant personnel.
- Successful Implementation of Licensing Contracts, including: – Proving Technology sales support, reviewing Process Design Packages, and participating in project kick-of meetings and P&ID reviews.
- Oversee know-how transfer through preparation of Know-How Manuals, Training Manuals, and performing Licensing training.
- Perform plant check-out and lead the plant start-up team.
- Perform performance guarantee demonstration runs, as necessary.
- Provide Technical Support and on-going Know-How exchange with existing Licensees, including: Manage the Know-How exchange meeting, including leading the collection of Licensee data, setting the agendas for the sessions, and leading the meeting discussions.
- Provide technical support on Licensee plant problems and potential solutions.
- Provide Technical Support for the OxyVinyls catalyst business activities including: Technical service and sales calls, as necessary.
- Provide feedback to catalyst supplier to support R&D efforts, activities, and priorities.
- Provide Technical Support to the VCM business, including: – Transfer knowledge from Licensee projects, problems, and solutions to improve our own plant processes.
- Provide intelligence of Licensee future plans and potential projects.
- Provide Technical Support to VCM plant personnel, including Know-How transfer to plant process engineers.
- Provide technical assistance in solving plant problems.
- Maintain cordial relationships with licensees, customers, potential clients, engineering companies, and internal and external business associates to maintain existing and foster new business activities. This involves periodic visits to licensee and customer plants, head offices, and other technical facilities.
- Work with outside domestic and foreign organizations including, licensees, producers, engineering, and catalyst companies.
- Oversee the maintenance and protections of intellectual property rights.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- A minimum of 3 years direct experience in VCM technology.
- This includes strong technical and engineering knowledge of plant design, operations, start-up, troubleshooting, and economics. A sound technical background in the development, manufacture, use and evaluation of catalyst products is also required. A working knowledge of technology development and sales, and intellectual property management is required.
- Ability to work with customers in all regions of the world with different cultures and different levels of knowledge of the VCM industry.
- React to the demands of the customer, which vary significantly from country to country and customer to customer.
- Understand and adapt to local business customers, rules and etiquette.
- This position must be able to work to schedules and deadlines, which are often dictated by others outside the organizations. Very often, an immediate response is necessary to effectively deal with an urgent customer request.
- A flexible, solution-oriented approach is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft applications (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
- Self-starter with a strong desire to deliver superior results.
- Strong analytical/problem solving skills.
- A proven team player capable of working in a multi-discipline team environment with a desire to share knowledge.
- Must be able to travel internationally often for extended periods of time on short notice, to support assignments. Start-up assignments can result in 6-10 week foreign assignments.
- Physical requirements – Must be able to lift 40 lbs, climb ladders and stairs. Walking, bending, stooping is required. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator. Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms. Start-up assignments can involve temperature and climate extremes in various parts of the world.
Additional Desired Qualifications:
- Broad base of knowledge in VCM plant operations.
- Plant supervisory or management experience.
- Good comfort level presenting information to all levels of management, including client management.
