This Operations and Mechanical (O&M) position requires pre-employment testing. Please read the job description in its entirety for additional information on accessing the assessment. The assessment should be completed by Sunday, March 24th, 2024.

What role you will play in our team

• Mechanical Craft Technicians are called upon to do heavy mechanical work that requires a number of skills including pipefitting, welding, boiler-making, rigging, operating cranes, carpentry, painting and equipment repair.
• An employee, to be qualified as a pipefitter must demonstrate an ability to safely install all components of pipe and vessel systems and should have the skills necessary to safely troubleshoot, analyze and repair components of these systems.
• These systems consist of components including but not limited to: relief valves, valves, flanges, pressure vessels, silos, high pressure tubing, autoclave tubing, PVC piping, Lokring fittings, drums, filters, tubing, exchangers and similar equipment.
• Pipefitters are expected to optimize their use of related trade flexibility skills/knowledge in a safe/ predictable manner.  Activities above must be executed in a safe, efficient, reliable manner adhering to established practices, procedures and operating guidelines.
   

What you will do

Follow Safety Practices and Procedures

Troubleshooting/repair all types of mechanical equipment

Reading/interpreting repair manuals and drawings

Operation and use of motorized equipment and hoisting equipment

Performing maintenance on all types of fixed equipment (furnaces, boilers, heat exchangers, tower internals, etc.)

Working knowledge of piping systems design characteristics and repair procedures

Job will require mounting and dismounting forklifts, trailers, and truck beds

Follows and implements Complex policies and procedures

Being a team player, participate in team meetings.  Share knowledge and experience with fellow employees.

Providing ongoing recommendations to continuously improve both the reliability of equipment they are working on and the efficiency with which the repairs/maintenance are done.

Performs position in a manner that demonstrates knowledge, understanding, and commitment for health and safety of self, others and the surrounding communities and for the protection of the environment

Knowledge of reliability and maintenance systems and their purpose

Qualified in the Metals craft with knowledge of how other crafts affect Metals work and the overall job

Able to use software tools to perform operations and tasks required by the job

Utilizes approved standards (G.P.) to facilitate trade & technology application for:  metallurgy, materials identification, design practices, pipe & mechanical joint applications

Prepares isometric drawings from field measurements for shop & field fabrication of piping systems.

Fabricates piping systems using the pipefitter’s handbook for items such as standard/nonstandard bends, fittings, flanges, etc.

Carries out hot tap, plus plumbers vent plug tasks in accordance with Mechanical Safe Work Practices (MSWP) Manual  (Sect. 050) critical job procedures

Layout, fabricate, and install tubing of various sizes & materials by utilizing proper cutting, stretching, bending, and flaring procedures

Piping skills–flanged, welded, and screwed

Blueprint reading and Pipe sketching

Structural steel and plate layout and welding

Sets up and operates shop & field powered tools such as: threading & cutting machines

drilling, tapping, reaming & grinding equipment

air, H20 pressure testing equipment

Utilization of Hand and Power Tools

Operating shop machinery (punches, rolls, shears, etc.)

Utilizes oxy-acetylene cutting & burning tools for pipe system fabrication & obsolete equipment removal

Performs rigging & hoisting activities, utilizing: MSWP

International hand signals

Visual assessment of slings & cables

Forklift, stevedore & man-lift equipment

Installs & removes instrument devices such as orifice plates, thermos wells, impulse lines, air lines, level chambers, gauge glasses, meters, control valves, MOV’s, etc.

Breaks and assembles various types of mechanical joints associated with safety valves, flanges, screwed fittings, big and small piping, screens, strainers and other associated items.

Remove, rig, and install inline pumps in and out of service

Utilizes preventative and predictive maintenance for steam tracing, trap and header repairs i.e. trap testing, repairing & tracking

Cleans & assembles various furnace burner configurations for maximum burner efficiency

Works to the limit of capability in related trades (i.e: boiler making, scaffolding, insulating, etc.) in the presence of/or absence of a lead hand from that trade.

Supports work organization by utilizing the work control system, for material procurement, work assignments, standard job plans, incident reviews, time input, etc.

About You

Skills and Qualifications

Ability to make decisions based on safely completing the job, ensuring equipment reliability

Demonstrated the ability to effectively develop, communicate and implement plans

Effective in oral and written communications, including effective meeting skills

Ability to work with others in a team environment, including working toward team goals

Ability to qualify for a TWIC card.

Willing and able to work in both indoor shops and in field outdoor settings

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

Minimum: High School Diploma or GED with 5 to 7 years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Desired: Journeyman Pipefitter State License.

Mechanical/maintenance experience in a chemical plant (or other manufacturing plants)

Pre-employment Testing Requirement

This Operations and Mechanical (O&M) position requires pre-employment testing. After applying you will receive a pop up giving you access to the assessment. You may take the assessment at that time or utilize the instructions below to access the assessment at a time convenient for you.  Note that the assessment must be completed by the deadline in order for you to be considered for the O&M position for which you have applied. 
    
IMPORTANT

The O&M test has been revised.  Effective December 1, 2021 ALL candidates must complete the revised assessment.  Even if you have tested within the last 365 days (passed or failed), you must complete the revised assessment to be considered for this O&M opportunity.  Failure to complete the assessment by the deadline will result in your disqualification from consideration for this position.  

Test passed candidates will be screened by the hiring team and a subset invited for interview.  Note that a satisfactory result on the assessment does not guarantee an interview.
