JOB TITLE: MEDIC & HSE COORDINATOR
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide on-site medical care to all installation personnel.
- Diagnosis and Initiate treatment of illness on-site as per Medics Medical Standard Operation Procedures, including initiation of prescription medications (in consultation with the Topside Doctor); this may include acute medical and surgical conditions requiring immediate skilled treatment.
- Provide initial emergency response, resuscitation and stabilisation of critically ill or injured (trauma) patients, utilising relevant emergency medical protocols.
- Communicate and provide details to the Topside Doctor for the management and treatment of medevac cases, providing appropriate referral documentation for injured or ill personnel requiring medevac and liaise with logistics personnel to arrange safe transfer onshore to receive further medical treatment.
- Identify potential issues between an individual’s medical assessment, any medication of concern and their work scope, informing the OIM of potential issues and manage accordingly with input from the top.
- Monitor & Maintain Medical records
- Maintain accurate patient medical records and ill health/incident reporting in accordance with medical Medical Standard procedures and statutory requirements
- Maintain complete and accurate written and computerised records, reports, statistics and referral letters relating to all clinical work and ensure the security and confidentiality of information under the requirements of the General Data Protection Principles (2016) and Access to Medical Records Act (1990).
- Management of Medical Facilities and Equipment
- Order, maintain and control adequate stocks of medical equipment and pharmaceuticals in the sickbay, as per MSOPs, the Company’s drug formulary, and/or as directed by the Remote Medical Services Team.
- Operate all medical emergency equipment listed within MERP and MSOPs. Conduct regular functional checks and keep a record of weekly checks.
- Key Responsibilities: Health and Wellness
- Adhere to NEO’s health promotion goals, e.g. implementation of Healthy Working Lives award programme, and encourage healthy living by providing regular education on lifestyle issues.
- Manage and participate in health surveillance programmes for employees who may be at risk, in line with the NEO’s occupational health policies and procedures and maintain appropriate records.
- Key Responsibilities: Occupational Health
- Conduct and participate in Health, Safety Environmental (HSE) briefs and inductions for all new installation personnel as required.
- Act as installation’s Potable Water Management focal point. Complete water management activities as required, including periodic potable water testing and routine water sampling for chemical and microbiological analyses, chlorination of fresh water tanks as required, and acceptance testing of bunkered water prior to onboarding. Maintain all appropriate records.
- Act as the Noise Focal Point, develop annual noise monitoring plan in conjunction with onshore HSA, ensure noise monitors remain calibrated, conduct noise monitoring on a trip-by-trip basis as per PMRs and Noise Action Plan, co-ordinate personal dosimetry, update NEMS monitoring system and advise platform management on any concerns relating to noise exposure.
- Act as installation focal point for Benzene Management. Ensure that personnel involved in activities that may expose them to Benzene have received appropriate awareness training. Working with the Barge Master, ensure that Benzene meters are available at all times and subject to routine calibration as required. Ensure suitable stocks of equipment are ordered and maintained to facilitate required testing.
- Act as the installation focal point for Health Surveillance as required, e.g. assist as required with any health surveillance and monitoring which is flagged as required by topside medical services post-completion of Health Surveillance Screening.
- Carry out qualitative face fit testing for personnel who require re-assessment and need to wear respiratory protective equipment and maintain appropriate records.
Essential Qualifications and Skills:
- NMC if a registered nurse
- HCPC if Paramedic
- NEBOSH Certificate, Diploma or equivalent experience preferred
- Medical
- Competent in resuscitation procedures, including thrombolysis, and the use of available ECG and monitoring devices
- Competence in the communications protocol with the topside emergency doctor service
- Knowledge of local emergency response (multi-casualty, major injury or death), including competence in applying triage, arranging emergency treatment areas, and medevac procedures
- Competence in applying company procedures for the management of disease outbreaks, e.g., food poisoning
- Knowledge of, and ability to use, the ISOS Medics IT system
- Ability to Supervise first aiders and provide regular first-aider training
- Knowledge of Oil and Gas UK guidance on medical fitness for offshore work
- Ability to make informed decisions within the bounds of accountability, taking into account external factors such as weather conditions and accessibility to onshore emergency medical services
