Overview
We are seeking a Non-metallic characterization and qualification specialist to join the Materials & Corrosion Services Division of Research & Analytical Services Department
The Material & Corrosion Service Division is well equipped with unique facilities including coatings testing, mechanical testing (erosion, wear, slow strain tester, hardness etc), environmental cracking testing.
The Non-metallic characterization and qualification specialist primary role to support the development of a new generation of composite materials and structures for Oil and Gas (O&G) applications focusing on polymer composite reinforcements, advanced non-metallic pipes and liners and composites claddings as well as beyond piping.
Key Responsibilities
Develop in-house competency in non-metallic testing and the qualification of new polymer resins and composites products such as reinforced thermoset resin pipe (RTR), reinforced thermoplastic pipe (RTP), tanks, vessels, composite parts related oil and gas industries.
Propose new research programs and develop research strategies to address the technical limitations preventing the massive adoption of polymer composites.
Support CSD to maintain and develop SA Engineering standards for qualification of NM materials.
Identify new trends for the applications of polymer composites materials in O&G.
Participate in the development of international standards related to polymer composites in O&G.
Train and mentor young scientists/engineers’ technicians to acquire the technical know-how and expertise to become fully independent in leading technical tasks and projects as well developing their advance plan.
Establish and manage collaborations with other units, departments, and external partners to accelerate the achievement of goals and maximize the impact of the research programs.
Carry out failure investigative analysis studies on field damaged non-metallic pipes to identify the root cause of damage mechanism.
Utilize project management tools in setting work objectives, detailing experimental scope, and timely execution of the projects towards sound technical solutions.
Minimum Requirements
Ph.D., degree in Materials Science and Engineering
Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in non-metallic science.
Fifteen years of experience in material science, composite materials and non-metallic in O&G
Track record of industrial laboratory experience at the non-metallic piping manufacturer for testing performance and characterization of NM materials, particularly for NM materials used in the oil and gas sector, e.g., RTR piping.
Proven track record of research and technology development and deployment in composite materials and non-metallic materials.
Demonstrate scientific and technical authority and broad technical credibility, preferably including publications and patents.
Visited field operations, and understand process design and parameters effect on composite materials and non-metallic materials.
