We are looking for a self-motivated individual to fill the position of Process Supervisor at our Niagara PVC plant located in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

1/ Provides supervision, direction and leadership to the Distribution department.

  • The Process Supervisor will lead, organize and supervise shift operations and personnel to maintain and ensure safe, efficient ordering and distribution of products/supplies in a cooperative and respectful manner
  •  Supervises the Distribution and Pigment department staff on a twelve-hour shift basis to ensure that distribution schedules the supply of timely materials/supplies for resin production as well as the timely distribution of finished products.
  •  

    Plans and organizes training activities in the Distribution and Pigment Areas to ensure timely and sufficient cross training for area work activities.

  • Reviews departmental position objectives and maintenance schedules and promotes teamwork and communications across the shifts.  Provides direction to the Distribution Lead Techs and Pigment Operators for process scheduling priorities and plans. 
  • Reviews production plans with the Resin production team and Traffic Coordinator to understand and execute scheduling requirements.  Manages the vacation planning and creates the staffing schedules for the Resin, Distribution, and Pigment area operators. 
  • Reviews, organizes, and maintains records of all daily Distribution and Pigment/Raw Material forms for completeness and area status.  Communicates any issues with the management/technical team as needed. 
  • Ensures plant compliance with all Corporate Oxy Transportation and Distribution work practices and procedures.  Communicates any issues with corporate T&D contacts as needed. 
  • Liaises with Oxy Vinyls management team, assists employees with the interpretation of various policies and procedures including twelve hour shift schedule policy. 
  • Works with Distribution Lead Techs and Pigment Operators to implement daily operations, organize shift task responsibilities, and maintenance action plans. 
  • Liaises with Human Resources to resolve related issues or concerns including employee relations, staffing, wage concerns, benefit policies etc.  Maintains and promotes positive employee morale and administers progressive discipline as required, conducts employee appraisals, ensures compliance to standard operating procedures.

  • Communicates Distribution and Pigment issues to the department Supervisor/Manager and maintenance action plans to maintenance and operating personnel. Attends daily maintenance meetings and discusses maintenance issues, plans and equipment preparation if required. Issues and tracks maintenance work orders for items that need to be completed.

  • Task responsibilities are used to ensure operating personnel work toward departmental position objectives. Training, discipline, meetings and appraisals are used to maintain and upgrade operating personnel skills. Standard operating procedures are used to direct personnel how to consistently operate equipment and processes. Conducts periodic VCM car checks for AVCM in the rail yard with staff. 
  • Provides support to the Production Superintendent and Production Engineer for management of activities in the Resin Production Area. 

 

2/ Executes the requirements of the plant Safety Program

  • Determines HSE hazards related to tasks in the Distribution and Pigment areas and takes action to eliminate.
  • Monitors and enforces plant safety rules and requirements.
  • Conducts daily work activities in support of HSE objectives and policies. 
  • Understands and uses personal accountability to assist with carrying out duties, responsibilities and authority as defined in HSE policies, programs, practices and procedures.
  • Interacts with the plant Safety Specialist, interprets the plant safety rules and safety program, attends safety seminars (on-site or off-site) and first aid/CPR, interpretation of the OHSA Handbook and Regulations for Industrial Establishments. 
  • Monitors, conducts observations, and verifies compliance of all T&D activities with Oxy and Canac Rail Switching requirements and OCS Blue initiatives. 

  • Implements safety rules and programs with maintenance action items, develops the monthly safety meeting, attains plant safety objectives, monitors housekeeping, discusses recommended disciplinary actions for safety, policy & procedure violations to Human Resources. 

  • Communicates safety rules and safety programs to operating personnel, maintenance and contractors, communicates issues from meetings to management. 

  • Maintains training required to perform duty as Incident Commander for the Fire Brigade Team in emergency situations. This responsibility may include becoming Incident Commander for Plant and Outside response personnel (Fire Department) for emergencies at the plant.

  • Performs a job observation report monthly and leads by setting a good example. Participates in incident investigations in a positive way.
  • Supports the Distribution Lead Techs and the Shift Supervisors/Resin Operators by issuing permits in the Distribution and Pigment Areas as outlined by the approved permit approver program.
  • Writes and reviews MoC’s as needed for process or procedure changes.  Completes items assigned in the near miss and MoC databases.

 

3/ Complies with environmental regulations for the department

  • Interacts with the Environmental Department, engineers, maintenance and management.  Understands the Ministry of Environment guidelines, OHSA regulations, environmental operating procedures, emergency measures response procedures and department position objectives. Issues permits based on proper environmental clearances. 
  • Communicates operating practices and strategies to distribution personnel for execution, issues permits in the field as needed (both QPQ and DPA) to production and maintenance personnel, tracks and works to reduce AVCM readings at VCM Unloading.

     

    4/ Troubleshoots abnormal process variables and equipment malfunctions within the department

    • Interacts with process engineers, maintenance and management, interprets standard operating procedures, interacts with process control computer systems (Delta V and Fisher Provox) and interprets laboratory data, inspection of process equipment. Assigns task responsibilities to operating personnel.

    • Communicates malfunctions and their resolution to management for investigation, prepares and prioritizes maintenance work orders, communicates strategies to operating personnel.

     

    5/ Executes the principles of Quality Management  

    • Interprets QM philosophy and procedures, interprets SPC and SQC practices.
      Develop strategies to promote the concept and acceptance of same, interact with the paperwork process, implement QM process on all work practices and procedures.

     

    Qualifications

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education: Successful completion of a Community College diploma in related field of study preferably in a (STEM) program or equivalent knowledge and experience. Sound knowledge of the production and distribution functions and related processes, procedures and systems in a plant environment. Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations. Knowledge of and ability to operate basic computer software applications including Microsoft Excel, Word, Power-point, Outlook, and to conduct research using the internet. (SAP knowledge preferred). Problem solving/analytical skills, strong organizational and coordination skills and team building skills.

     

    Experience: Related plant experience in a Distribution and/or Production department with a focus on supply chain management including strong working knowledge of inventory controls and just in time distribution practices preferred. Must have related experience and be familiar with plant operations, systems, processes and procedures. Must have sound working knowledge and experience in plant operations including plant production. Previous supervisory experience including planning, coordinating, organizing and delegating work preferred. Related experience in project planning, preparing reports, and maintaining records. Administrative, analytical and problem solving skills to resolve issues effectively. Strong interpersonal/communication and team building skills.  Ability to deal with staff/visitors/public with tact, diplomacy and courtesy. In addition, must have previous experience with Health and Safety practices and procedures in a manufacturing environment, ideally a chemical processing facility.
