Production Supervisor (GoM Offshore – Rotator) Job

POSITION SUMMARY
The Production Supervisor (PS) will report to the OIM and provide a range of operational, regulatory, and technical-related support. The position will play a key role in interfacing and collaborating with the OIM’s direct reports and supporting onshore functions, including Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S), Maintenance, Reliability, and Integrity (MR&I), Global Supply Chain (GSC), and Finance Teams to satisfy Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and People (SQDCP) targets.  The PS is the single point of accountability for the delivery of offshore production operations activities; key responsibilities include providing frontline management, support and mentoring of offshore Operation crews driving effective work processes to deliver safe and reliable assets in the GOM. This individual is expected to demonstrate and support a strong Lean culture of continuous improvement to drive performance to new levels.

 

This position will be located Offshore in the Gulf of Mexico on a rotational basis (14/14).  

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety

  • Ensure facility is operated within all applicable government regulations, Hess EH&S standards, and procedures by performing routine worksite visits
  • Understand Stop Work Authority (SWA) and Ultimate Work Authority (UWA) per the GOM Operational Management System Manual, proactively using SWA when necessary
  • Manage control of work activities for both Maintenance core team and service contractors working for the Maintenance team, which includes:
    • Perform the Permit Verifier role within the electronic Permit to Work system
    • Perform the Isolation Authority role within the electronic Permit to Work system
    • Ensure quality Job Safety Analysis (JSAs) are in place for permits issued by the Operations team  
    • Issue and control the Equipment Owner Lock (EOL) cabinet
  • Ensure API RP 14C regulatory testing is completed within required frequencies
  • Promote the Safety Observation Card (SOC) and Leadership Site Visits (LSV) programs by completing  
  • Lead EH&S discussions by routinely presenting topics during weekly safety meetings
  • Responsible for Operations aspects of the regulatory database, as appropriate
  • Ensures the regulatory database is audited regularly to satisfy all regulatory requirements
  • Ensure changes to plant, equipment or organization are subject to the appropriate level of Management of Change (MOC)  
  • Participate in emergency response activities as a member of the Emergency Response Team

Quality

  • Set daily priorities for Operations team to achieve short and long-term objectives
  • Comply with all requirements in the Hess Operational Management System (HOMS) documents
  • Comply with the Hess Work Management process in SAP
  • Responsible for schedule compliance, schedule variance, schedule capacity loading, and break-ins for the Operations Work Center
  • Responsible for technically completing all Operations work orders, ensuring the work order has been closed out correctly
  • Manage and execute Operations-related Performance Standard Tests
  • Assure that the Autonomous Maintenance inspections are executed by the Operations team, recognizing achievements and progress, removing barriers, and identifying training needs
  • Reduce unplanned losses and equipment failures by assuring Root Cause Failure Analyses (RCFA’s) are conducted and participated in when necessary
  • Lead and participate in operating rhythm meetings as designated by the agreed Terms of Reference (TOR), including pre-meeting preparation to drive value in meeting discussion
  • Assist in long-term planning of Shutdowns, Turnarounds, and Outages (STO)
  • Escalate quality issues to the appropriate MR&I Craft Specialist for assistance, including any required support from 3rd party vendors or suppliers
  • Ensure operational procedures are followed, actively reviewed, red-lined and updated in a timely manner
  • Actively demonstrate and support a strong Lean culture of continuous improvement to drive performance to new levels by:
    • Eliminating waste to improve safety, quality, and delivery
    • Implementing and sustaining standard processes (e.g., work instructions, 5S organization, swimlane mapping, etc.)
    • Performing structured problem-solving (e.g., 5-Whys, Problem-Solving A3s, etc.)
    • Developing and applying visual control dashboards with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
    • Assuring common improvement opportunities are implemented consistently within the platform and across the crews

Delivery

  • Monitor daily production to ensure wells are managed according to Well Management Guidelines (WMGs) and deviations to the Integrated Capacity (IC) are actively investigated, and corrective action implemented  
  • Maintain strong relationship and communication with marketing and commercial stakeholders, including:
    • Support the weekly guidance issued by the Onshore Asset Engineer
    • Provide timely and accurate reporting to stakeholders (marketing, pipeline, terminal) of off-spec commodity (oil, gas) quality issues (BS&W, MeOH, water content, etc.) or unplanned shutdowns / deferrals
  • Ensure production equipment (subsea, topsides) are managed in accordance to approved operating envelopes (Safety / Integrity / Regulatory, Operational, Flow Assurance, Marketing, Commercial) and deviations are investigated, and corrective actions implemented  
  • Ensure chemical rates are optimized and on-target
  • Ensure the Daily Production Report (DPR) is accurate and distributed daily as per standards
  • Identify opportunities to improve operations execution and equipment reliability, takes the lead in addressing these opportunities or by engaging the right resources
  • Manage and coach Operators with daily work activities to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost  
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures to prevent recurrence  
  • Manage equipment swaps to ensure redundant equipment is being properly cycled, escalate to the appropriate Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) if unable to perform in accordance with standards Cost  
  • Develop annual Operations budget and perform monthly forecasting, including:
    • Topsides and subsea chemicals
    • Static production equipment, as applicable  
  • Approve Operations invoices, ensuring costs are accurate

People  

  • Jointly agree and review personal performance objectives with the OIM
  • Assure the establishment of the direct reports’ annual objectives and holding regular performance feedback sessions, with a recorded mid-year, and a year-end Performance Management Plan (PMP) appraisal  
  • Verify and support the follow-up of Individual Development Plans (IDPs) in Career Manager
  • Provide input for contractor year-end reviews
  • Approve timesheets for hourly core crew employees and contractors
  • Annually identify developmental training for Operations team members
  • Ensure Operations team members are up to date with company and regulatory required training
  • Ensure Operations team is continually working towards 100% competency compliance
  • Provide direct supervision, mentoring and development of all Hess Operators and oversight to contractor Operations personnel

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and Skills

  • EHS safety process system experience (Permit to work, risk assessment, hazardous operations [HAZOP], hazardous identification [HAZID] and Pre-Startup Safety and Environmental Review [PSSER])
  • Advanced knowledge of process safety and barrier models such as the bow tie diagram and swiss cheese model  
  • Integrity and risk-based inspection program awareness is desirable
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a diverse, multidiscipline, team-oriented environment  
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Leadership, coaching and influencing skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks

Experience

  • 10+ years industry experience  
  • 5+ years in a supervisory position desirable
  • Experience working offshore deepwater desirable
  • Experience with subsea wells and flow assurance desirable   

Education, Training & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, minimum requirement is High School diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Obtaining and maintaining Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET)  
  • Obtaining and maintaining Production Safety Systems training (T-2)  
  • Obtaining and maintaining Managing Major Emergencies (MEM)
