Job Summary

Alaska Overview
ConocoPhillips Alaska, Inc. is Alaska’s largest crude oil producer and largest owner of exploration leases, with approximately 1 million net undeveloped acres at year-end 2023. The company produced an average of 195 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day (MBOED) in 2023. ConocoPhillips Alaska holds major ownership interests in two of North America’s largest legacy equivalent per day conventional oil fields, both located on Alaska’s North Slope: Kuparuk, which the company operates, and Prudhoe Bay. Additionally, ConocoPhillips Alaska owns and operates several fields on the Western North Slope. The company also has an ownership interest in the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System and owns and operates the Polar Tankers fleet.

Job Description

The Project Engineer is accountable to manage the engineering contractor and accept the project engineering deliverables. The Project Engineer will coordinate multidiscipline engineering resources and various client resources to help assure project objectives for the ultimate product meets the design basis functionality, operability, maintainability, constructability, quality, installed cost, and schedule.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Demonstrate active and visible support for Incident-Free Culture (IFC) principles. Conduct IFC workshops, as needed
  • Support the Human Performance principles and becoming a better Learning Organization by understanding/learning from the employees who conduct the work
  • Ensure all files, information, e-mail, etc. comply with COPA document and records management (DRM) policy
  • Fully utilize CPMS AK standards and practices on all projects appropriate with project size and risk

Engineering Contractor Management

  • Ensure functional requirements and specifications are understood by engineering contractor
  • Package engineer material and equipment orders to ensure suppliers deliver on specifications and engineering requirements, within cost and schedule
  • Monitor and track engineering contractor performance against cost and schedule
  • Ensure contractor resourcing needs for the project program are well planned and available as needed
  • Maintain clear and organized documentation of communications and directions between contracted groups and project management team
  • Validate the contractor has delivered the scope of work and all required deliverables according to contract terms and conditions and CPMSAK
  • Support timely engineering query resolution during the fabrication and construction phases
  • Develop the Engineering Plan for the Project Execution Plan (PEP) as assigned by the Engineering & Commissioning Manager
  • Monitor project execution against the plan. Communicate deviations that may be scope changes using the project change management process and update the PEP with approved changes
  • Monitor technical and execution risks to achieving the business objectives and project objectives and communicate the indication of risks
  • Work with Environmental permitting specialist to plan and provide all support documentation required to secure project permits
  • Ensure the engineering change management process is followed to preserve technical integrity
  • Coordinate the engineering support for material and services procurement required to design, fabricate, and install the required facilities
  • Coordinate the constructability input to the project design
  • Ensure the CPMSAK Design Review and Acceptance Practice (DRAP) are scheduled and conducted
  • Assure process hazard review and safety in design standards are used and documented
  • Assure specification deviations and specification adaptations are identified, documented, and approved by the COPA Technical Authority

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or foreign equivalent
  • 5 or more years of experience with oil & gas facilities
