JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB PURPOSE

 

Monitors and coordinates the activities of the catalyst research lab in line with company Refining’s QHSE standards in order to support the uninterrupted operations and facilitate the achievement of catalyst research objectives.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

Development & Evaluation of New Technology:

 Assists the Senior Scientist & Catalysis team to conduct studies and evaluate new technologies in bench scale operations and catalyst characterization, testing technology and systems to facilitate optimization of refinery operations.

 

Catalyst testing/ evaluation:

 Assists the Senior Scientist & Catalysis team in troubleshooting unit problems that may arise during construction, commissioning, start-up, handover etc whilst recommending solutions and following up on implementation to facilitate achievement of desired results.

 Reviews pre-commissioning, commission, start-up and performance test procedures and conducts precommissioning and commissioning for bench scale plant and utility systems ensuring adherence to RC&QC procedures and standards.

 Collects bench scale test operating data, evaluates unit efficiencies by relating to heat and mass balance while identifying any possible trend and reporting same with seniors in management decision making.

 Provides support for the effective and optimized operations of the bench scale units/ catalyst characterization equipment; participates in the identification of possible solutions and discussing problems with subordinates to support implementation of corrective actions.

 

Scientist, Catalysis Research

 Support senior scientist in design and plan bench scale performance tests/catalyst characterization, acceptance test of new plans to support adherence to defined specifications by the new units in line with RC&QC requirements.

 Support catalyst characterization and ensure data quality from equipment 

 Performs various catalyst characterization/ test operations in coordination with the catalyst researchers, process engineers etc and provides assistance in the analysis of special test results in order to provide further information and insight for the effectiveness of testing and for alternative methods.

 

Support for Tendering & Contract Management:

 Participates in pre – qualification process for vendors related to R&D and catalyst lab equipment, together with superior, to ensure that all product requirements and services are provided cost efficiently in accord with defined standards and procedures ensuring optimum protection of RC&QC’s business interests.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

 Masters degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or equivalent.

 At least 3 years’ experience with Master’s degree / 5 years with bachelor’s degree in R&D capacity.

 Track record and experience in catalyst preparation and characterization and evaluation preferably in oil& gas industry

 Experience in R & D laboratory.

 Sound skills in using analytical tools.

 Result oriented and focused on delivering solutions.

 Knowledge of general catalyst characteristics.

 Able to keep abreast of recent advances in catalysis and reaction technologies.

 Excellent communicator and must have good interpersonal skills.

 Team player and team builder

 Fluent in English, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Arabic is preferable.
