Job Summary

The Senior/ Staff Commercial Negotiator will be responsible for supporting all upstream commercial and business development activities in Malaysia. This will include leading the management of commercial matters related to ConocoPhillips’s existing PSC’s and developing new growth opportunities. This position will be responsible for protecting ConocoPhillips’s investments in numerous ongoing Sabah and Sarawak oil and gas fields and ensuring that all commercial arrangements create maximum value for ConocoPhillips. The job will require a great deal of interaction with PETRONAS and upstream joint venture partners as well as internal stakeholders within ConocoPhillips.

Job Description

Primary Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Develop commercial strategies, represent ConocoPhillips in commercial meetings, lead commercial negotiations with external parties / stakeholders and work closely with Legal to construct / review related commercial agreements
  • Oversee commercial activities and management of existing commercial agreements relating to ConocoPhillips’s assets in Malaysia
  • Leverage existing contractual positions to protect ConocoPhillips investments in Malaysia
  • Actively pursue additional opportunities to maximize value from existing asset base and grow ConocoPhillip’s presence in Malaysia
  • Work with ConocoPhillips crude marketers to plan liftings for ConocoPhillips crude and condensate entitlements and work closely with internal asset teams and external parties (terminal operator, upstream operator and joint venture parties) to protect ConocoPhillips’ position and resolve  lifting related issues as they arise  .
  • Work closely with Exploration, Asset and Economics teams to analyze investment opportunities and proactively bring opportunities forward for management review
  • Provide commercial insight and analysis for key exploration and development decisions
  • Develop and maintain positive and strategic working relationships with PETRONAS, joint venture partners, IOCs and other stakeholders
  • Coordinate with appropriate internal functions to ensure alignment on all commercial matters
  • Provide commercial input in building annual business plans, field development plans, reserves reporting and any other corporate reporting for ConocoPhillips Malaysia
  • Proactively identify commercial issues across joint ventures, and work with internal functions and bring forward options to management for resolution

HSE Roles:

  • Comply with HSE policies, Life Saving Rules, procedures, goals, and programs within the MBU HSE Management System.
  • Actively engage in and contribute to HSE communication and consultation processes.
  • Actively participate in HSE initiatives and programs that include but not limited to, Safety Observations and HSE Trainings.
  • Support company sustainability development (SD) initiatives and other environmental policies and practices.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering, Business or other related field
  • 10 to 15 years experience in the oil and gas industry with at least 5 years experience in leading, analyzing, negotiating, and constructing upstream commercial negotiations and agreements.
  • Deep understanding of upstream commercial agreements (PSC, JOA, UUOA, GSA, etc.)
  • Significant experience in drafting, negotiating, and implementing upstream commercial agreements.
  • Facilitation skills and ability to participate in and coordinate multi-discipline teams to support commercial negotiations
  • Fundamental understanding and experience with PSC economics analysis
  • Strong negotiation, influencing, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with internal functions, PETRONAS, state companies, joint venture partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Creative thinker with strong business acumen
  • Excellent written and communication skills in the English language
  • High safety, environmental and ethical standards
