Description
Job Purpose:
Plan and supervise a group of mechanical designers responsible for preparing drawings for mechanical engineering projects covering all areas of the company’s operations as per company policy and drafting procedures.
Key Result Areas:
1. Co-ordinate and supervise mechanical designing & drafting for the mechanical engineering projects covering overall plant design, ensuring consistency and presentation with adherence to drafting standards.
2. Liaise with the project engineers and designers for the preparation of project filed sketches and for defining project scope for setting realistic schedule for meeting the target date of completion.
3. Manage a job schedule by efficiently allocating the available resources to the projects to ensure their optimum utilization.
4. Review and sign the drawings to ensure dimensional accuracy, adherence to project requirements and conformity to company standards.
5. Liaise and co-ordinate with the external agencies to ensure compliance with Company policy, standards, and records management.
6. Advise designers on the accuracy of drawings during project development for reducing the costly delays and the duplication of work.
7. Monitor the safety record of the group and recommend Health & Safety refresher courses where necessary on approval from Superintendent Life Cycle Information.
8. Mentor trainees and on occasions, compile and deliver training in various areas on designing/drafting to develop and prepare trainees for the position of designers.
Knowledge Skills & Experience:
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Minimum of 7 years’ experience in mechanical drafting and 2 years in a supervisory position in an office of and Engineering consultant, Manufacturing or maintenance company in the Oil & Gas or allied industry.
A thorough knowledge of engineering department and company standard and procedures.
Proficient in AutoCad and have a board knowledge of various CAD systems and associated software.
Shall be competent with personal computing with the ability to produce schedule, spreadsheets and presentations using such software as Microsoft projects, Excel, and Power Point.
