Permian Basin Overview

ConocoPhillips and its heritage companies have operated in the Permian Basin for almost 100 years. Across New Mexico and Texas, the company holds conventional positions in the Northwest Shelf and Central Basin Platform, and an unconventional position in the Delaware Basin. Permian saw significant growth in 2021 with the acquisition of Concho Resources Inc. in January 2021 and the addition of Shell’s Permian acreage in December 2021. At year-end, the company held approximately 1.5 million net acres in the Permian Basin.

Net production for the Permian in 2022 was 461 MBOED.

Description

The Permian IC&E Capital Development team is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual for the position of Sr. Electrical Engineer. This position will play a key role in overseeing the design, construction, and optimization of electrical systems. You will work in a team of talented engineers and analysts, ensuring high levels of performance and efficiency in engineering projects. This position reports to the IC&E Engineering Supervisor and will work directly with key Permian stakeholders across functional boundaries to achieve project objectives.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Conducting analyses on electrical power systems, including Load and Power Flow studies, Short Circuit Analysis, Coordination of Protective Devices, Arc Flash Analysis, and Harmonic Stability Studies
  • As required, creating, and furnishing electrical one-line diagrams, electrical load lists, electrical network drawings, wiring diagrams and details, cable and conduit schedules, electrical area classification details, and equipment specifications and datasheets
  • Developing and maintaining electrical system models which include existing and planned load
  • Collaborating with cross-functional asset teams to develop load forecasts
  • Creating and submitting load requests and interfacing with utility companies
  • Examining power systems to consider new or current demands and potential growth areas to pinpoint essential expansions and enhancements in infrastructure
  • Overseeing projects related to electrical and power systems
  • Providing recommendations to optimize protective devices such as reclosers, circuit breakers, and fuses
  • Applying troubleshooting skills to resolve issues with electrical and power systems equipment
  • Participating in project planning, budgeting, and scheduling activities
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of technical standards, criteria, guidelines, and specifications

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, related field, or foreign equivalent
  • 5+ years of professional experience with an Electrical, Power, or Electronics Engineering focus
  • 1+ years of demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to manage budgets and resources effectively, and work multiple projects concurrently
  • Intermediate proficiency in conducting essential electrical analyses including Arc Flash, Load Flow, Protective Device Coordination and Fault Analysis
  • Basic knowledge of industry codes and standards, such as NEC/NESC, and IEEE
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft O365 applications: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, and Word
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to work and travel in the field 25% of the time on a yearly basis

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering
  • 10+ years of professional experience with an Electrical, Power, or Electronics Engineering focus
  • 1+ years of experience in oil and gas or with an electric utility or Transmission and Distribution Service Provider
  • Experience designing/supporting substation and distribution projects
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools such as ETAP, SKM or NEPLAN
  • Experience creating electrical equipment specifications for a variety of equipment and facilities for both low and medium voltage usages
  • Efficient written and verbal communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Builds positive relationships based on trust and seeks collaboration across organizational boundaries to achieve goals
