Description:

ConocoPhillips Canada is seeking an experienced geologist to work on the Reservoir Characterization Team in the Montney Development Organization, reporting to the Director of Reservoir Characterization. The successful candidate will have experience working unconventional reservoirs, and will bring a solid background in structural geology, geomechanics, core data integration, data acquisition and pad planning.  The candidate will be responsible for the integration of a broad range of subsurface data types, from regional scale to well-scale, in order to characterize the development potential and provide inputs to well forecasting.  As a senior member of the team, the individual will be responsible for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across the Montney organization, knowledge sharing and maintaining strong communication with global counterparts.

This role is based out of Calgary on a Monday to Friday optional hybrid work schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • Characterizing development potential of Montney reservoir, including facies mapping, in-situ stress regimes, expectations for CGR yield, pressure and well spacing and stacking expectations across the lease
  • Integrating production, completions, dynamic instrumentation data, and static geological data to describe fracture geometries and drained rock volumes of producing wells to inform optimizing completion designs and performance
  • Lead the evaluation of structure and geomechanics as well as the integration of their impacts on pad planning, completion design, reservoir characterization, and performance.
  • Support development and maintenance of Montney Subsurface Containment Assurance (SCA) guidelines, documentation, and risk management.  Represent Montney Subsurface as single point of contract for SCA.
  • Working closely with reservoir engineers, geologists and geochemists to build working models of fluid properties and phase prediction across lease to define geologically similar areas
  • Working within the Montney Reservoir Characterization team to evaluate key uncertainties and provide direction on pilot strategy and the data acquisition program
  • Represent Reservoir Characterization on the Pad Teams for specified development pads:
  • Characterization of overburden and/or zones below the Montney in support of development plan objectives
  • Leading and collaborating on characterization studies with ConocoPhillips experts in petrophysics, structure and geomechanics, and stratigraphy in Houston’s (GTF) Global Technical Functions group.
  • Sharing learnings at GGRE Knowledge Share meetings and with global counterparts at Global Technical Collaboration forums

Required Qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Registered as Professional Geoscientist with EGBC and/or APEGA
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geosciences
  • 10+ years’ experience in upstream oil and gas
  • Experience in unconventional resource plays
  • Strong structural or geomechanics background
  • Demonstrated understanding of production drivers in unconventional reservoirs
  • Direct experience with geoscience workflows in Petrel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to easily manage and complete multiple collaborative projects on different timelines
  • Delivers results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
  • Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Effective communication skills to properly interface with a multi-disciplinary team of geoscientists, geophysicists, reservoir engineers and completion engineers
