JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Purpose
Accountable for the operations Geology activities (acquisition, interpretation of geological data and the construction of geological models) along with preparation of comprehensive well programs for drilling, geo-steering and monitoring of all new and side-track wells. Uses technical expertise to ensure all aspects, characteristics and constraints of the earths subsurface are taken into account to identify and pursue new business opportunities, and to optimize the appraisal and development of hydrocarbon resources.
Job Specific Accountabilities
• Ensure timely and accurate delivery of comprehensive geological information for well programme preparation from ‘spud in’ to the completion of all well activities including, incorporating tools required to Geo-steer and monitor wells while being drilled, predict target depths compiling geological data sheet, well profile and drilling progress chart for each well.
• Prepare geological prognosis and identify geological uncertainties, and ensure geological prognosis and well objectives are fully met. Set criteria for casing points, coring depths, total depths and testing decisions. Manage uncertainties when planning and geo-steering horizontal wells. Optimize target tolerance to meet well objective and be cost effective.
• Geo-steer horizontal drains and monitor coring and mud logging programs and ensure compliance of agreed methods and techniques.
• Review important aspects of drilling and geological reports to test the validity of findings. Review the drilling assembly and parameters in addition to geological logging and survey data in order to monitor the status of the well.
• Provide Technical and Geological support to relevant Field and Drilling Teams on all aspects of Operations Geology.
• Appraise models of the subsurface to ensure accuracy and technical integrity.
• Integrate geological and other well data and advises on formation depth, structural and sedimentary patterns and features. Recommends drilling locations in collaboration with the team’s reservoir engineers.
• Supervise the work of contractors and laboratory assistants on the rigs to ensure proper implementation of the geological programmes and to ensure safe working practices.
• Control the quality of logging/coring/mud logging and other geological data gathering carried out by contractors; approving the logs, performing well site
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor Degree in Geology
Minimum Experience, Knowledge & Skills
8 years of experience
