Description

ConocoPhillips Canada is recruiting a Senior Geomodeller/Geologist to join our organization. This role will chiefly be responsible for building and maintaining geomodels as well as shaping the broader early subsurface evaluation of the pathways project. The successful applicant will report to the Supervisor, Reservoir Characterization in the Surmont Subsurface Organization but work closely with and take guidance from both the Director for Commercial & JV and Director for Low Carbon.  The candidate will ultimately be responsible for ensuring sufficient geologic evaluation has occurred to support progression of the Pathways project through CPC approval gates. As a result, this individual will be responsible for collaborating across the organization, partnering with global and corporate counterparts, and providing guidance to other geoscientists.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Pathways subsurface evaluation by building fit for purpose full field and area of interest geomodels and maps in Petrel to characterize and describe the Basal Cambrian Sandstone aquifer for pore space storage quantification, uncertainty characterization, MMV requirements, forecasting, simulation, development planning and other specific project deliverables.
  • Collaborate with Partners on project planning and execution, including MMV, injector development planning, storage capacities, risk and uncertainty description and management, and appraisal planning.
  • Evaluate/benchmark against analog/regional sequestration operations.
  • Conduct high level screening assessments of sequestration site alternatives using existing studies.
  • Engagement, knowledge sharing, and peer review material with the Low Carbon Team and Global Technical Function Team in Houston to ensure alignment with corporate best practices and processes.
  • Evaluate geological risks, including induced seismicity, faults, reservoir quality, injectivity, and CO2/pressure plume management.
  • Responsible for directing geomechanics/caprock geomodelling used for Subsurface Containment Assurance.
  • Provide recommendations to the project team and key stakeholders on data acquisition to refine subsurface understanding of the full field.
  • Working closely with the Subsurface Team to ensure consistency and integration of the reservoir properties, stratigraphic architecture, facies model, rock/CO2/brine interactions, and seismic interpretations into the subsurface characterization.
  • Prepare documentation on models including presentations for relevant project reviews and milestones.
  • Actively engage in COP geomodelling networks and participate in assurance and reviews with other COP BU’s.
  • Prepare documentation on workflows and best practices for knowledge sharing and assurance.
  • Provide Carbon Sequestration subject matter expertise for the Canada BU through literature reviews, analog studies, JIP, training, knowledge sharing with LCT/GTF, and Pathways/COSIA.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geoscience
  • 10+ years experience in the upstream oil & gas industry
  • Direct experience with Petrel & petrel workflow management (5+ years)
  • Experience in subsurface evaluation and workflow
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada without restrictions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to thrive in environments that present ambiguity and require effective decision-making with imperfect data
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated project integration skills
  • Demonstrated project management ability
  • Spotfire experience will be an asset
  • Geomodelling experience
