Job Summary

Eagle Ford Overview

The liquids-rich Eagle Ford tight oil trend, located in the Western Gulf Coast Basin of South Texas, represents the company’s second-most prolific unconventional resource development. ConocoPhillips was one of the first companies into the liquids play, resulting in a low-cost entry into this acreage. In 2009, the company began exploring the development potential of this play and by year-end 2022 held approximately 199,000 net leasehold and mineral acres, primarily in DeWitt, Karnes, and Live Oak counties.

During 2022, 153 operated wells were brought online, bringing total wells online at year-end to more than 1,700. Net production in 2022 averaged 220 MBOED.

Description

If you are selected as the Senior Reservoir Engineer, you will be responsible for planning and executing wells within the Eagle Ford and work closely with multiple partners to deliver near-term projects and optimization of the future inventory. The Reservoir Engineer will also be responsible for delivering insights into future field development and continuous improvement of the program.

Job Description

Responsibilities may include:

  • Lead development efforts in assigned areas through efforts within a multi-discipline team that includes Land, Drilling, Completions, Regulatory, Surface Land, Operations Geology, and Facilities, gaining approval and implementing development plans including well planning, execution, and post well evaluations in assigned areas
  • Maintain a drilling inventory that is prioritized and vetted through a multi-disciplinary team to focus on value, production, land obligations and infrastructure capability
  • Own technical assumptions (including, type curve forecasts, parent-child degradation, and yield assessments) in assigned area and analyze well production performance to inform decisions
  • Provide production forecasts, economics and AFE justifications for new wells and optimize plan of development in assigned areas
  • Evaluate Business Development opportunities for JVs, acquisitions, minerals, farmouts, etc.
  • Develop/cultivate new innovative ideas and work program to influence Eagle Ford business strategy
  • Seek and share standard processes with Eagle Ford development, Drilling & Completions, Operations, Projects teams as well as other Lower 48 and Canada Business Units
  • Mentor and lead others to commit to active learning and self-development

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Petroleum Engineering, other related Engineering field, or foreign equivalent
  • 5+ years of industry experience
  • Basic level of knowledge of production analysis
  • Basic understanding of economic analysis

Preferred:

  • Well-developed understanding of E&P land, unconventional field operations and infrastructure and commercial offtake, including a well-developed understanding of D&C, Projects, Operations, development/subsurface, land regulatory, and commercial
  • Experience employing CDQ workflows to support strategic decision
  • Advanced proficiency with PowerPoint, Excel, Spotfire and Power BI
  • Advanced knowledge of R, Python, or other programming languages
  • Ability to make/influence decisions and communicate effectively with management
  • Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what is right
  • Delivers positive results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
  • Builds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
