Context & Environment

The position is part of Company’s Well Operations for an offshore project located in Nigeria. The Senior Sand Control Pumping Specialist (Gravel Pack Specialist) will be responsible for the preparation and execution of sand control pumping and gravel pack operations, ensuring compliance with Company’s referential, industry best practices, and safety regulations.

The work environment will include both onshore well operations and offshore wells, including deepwater and conventional offshore operations. The role will require technical expertise, risk management, and hands-on leadership to optimize well productivity, safety, and operational efficiency.

Activities

Sand Control Pumping & Completion Design

  • Develop sand control completion designs in line with Statement of Requirements (SOR).
  • Perform gravel pack and sand control pumping selection, including:
  • Chemical qualification
  • Equipment yard calibration and testing
  • Tubing stress analysis
  • Corrosion and erosion analysis
  • Conduct contractor site and process technical/safety audits.

Pre-Job Planning & Risk Assessment

  • Organize Complete Well on Paper (CWOP) and risk assessment sessions for completion and workover operations.
  • Coordinate pre-job planning, quality assurance, and control for sand control pumping execution.
  • Ensure risk assessments, HAZID/HAZOP are conducted prior to completion operations.

Execution & Supervision

  • Write well programs and ensure sand control pumping and completion equipment meet well timelines.
  • Provide technical support during well site operations, ensuring procedures are followed.
  • Monitor service provider performance, ensuring compliance with Company’s standards.
  • Implement Management of Change (MOC) protocols and ensure risk assessments are communicated to the team.
  • Ensure proper coordination with field engineers and operations teams for smooth execution.
  • Interpret real-time well site sand control pumping data and recommend on-the-fly optimizations.

Performance Tracking & Continuous Improvement

  • Track well KPIs, service quality, and benchmark operational performance.
  • Prepare post-job analysis reports, identifying lessons learned and areas for improvement.
  • Ensure best practices are shared with service companies and internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure all sand control pumping records, completion schematics, and final tallies are correctly updated in WELLVIEW.

HSE & Compliance

  • Ensure strict adherence to safety rules, environmental regulations, and Company standards.
  • Guarantee the suitability of personnel, equipment, and services for operations.
  • Promote a LEAN approach, cost rationalization, and continuous improvement in completion activities.Qualifications & Experience Required:
    • Mandatory : fluent in English (spoken and written)
    • CV with minimum of 10 years’ experience
    • It’s required that the Sand Control Specialist has a diploma (Bachelor or University diploma or Higher Technical diploma).
    • BOSIET (Opito) with Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS) Training
    • IWCF “Updated” -> E.Learning Certification is not accepted.
    • Medical certificate (less than 1 year) by an official organism (i.e : ISOS center).
    • Minimum 10-15 years of experience in sand control pumping operations.
    • Proven hands-on experience in designing and executing gravel pack operations.
    • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to lead risk analysis sessions and ensure safety protocols are followed.
    • Willingness to work offshore and supervise operations in challenging environments
  • Working Relations :
    • Internal: all entities involved in the rig operations (SIMOPS).
    • External: all contractors involved in the rig operations.
  • Authority :
    • Ensure the respect of safety rules, of the environment and of the frame of reference.
    • Guarantee the accomplishment of the completion and/or work-over operations, in compliance with codes of practice, safety and environmental protection, all while optimising costs and lead times.
    • Ensure the suitability to operational requirements of personnel, equipment and services.
    • Contribute to optimize, through a continual search for the improving equipment, services and operational procedures.
