Job Profile Summary:

The Senior Staff Geologist, working under limited supervision, will lead the integration of structural and geophysical data, and utilize advanced geo-statistical techniques to analyze reservoir parameters and refine models to describe exploration prospect petroleum system elements. They will manage an exploration opportunity database to rank leads and prospects. Additionally, they will conduct detailed technical assessments for emerging plays, and collaborate closely with asset teams to investigate geological opportunities. The role involves offering strategic recommendations, executing dynamic capital programs, and supervising data collection and integration strategies to ultimately expand Devon’s asset base.

 

Job Description:

  • Integrate well logs, core, seismic, completion, and production data to identify a portfolio of exploration opportunities.
  • Work with a geoscience team and the reservoir engineer to assess economic success outcome feasibility for each exploration lead or prospect and rank them.
  • Lead integration of structural data using geo-statistical techniques to analyze reservoir parameters and develop geological models.
  • Participate in strategic reviews, refine models, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve reservoir characterization.
  • Conduct technical assessments to evaluate emerging unconventional and resource plays, providing insights for exploration.
  • Collaborate with asset teams to investigate geological opportunities, lead geological analyses, and apply stratigraphic and structural concepts.
  • Offer strategic recommendations, planning and execution of capital programs regarding data collection or acquisition (coring, sampling, testing, drilling, recompletions, seismic data and processing) to optimize exploration testing.
  • Generate maps, cross sections, and geologic models to characterize and describe the risk associated with a prospect’s petroleum system elements.
  • Provide guidance on data processing needs, such as log analysis, petrophysical model development, or oversite of core/cuttings preparation and analysis.
  • Participate in the execution of exploration wells by providing the geologic inputs to the well planning process, operations support, and potentially overseeing geologic data acquisition projects such as logging or coring.
  • Leverage working knowledge of latest drilling/completion practices, technology, and related costs in prospect evaluation and ranking.
  • Work independently to conduct exploration related geoscience tasks while routinely working with Geologists and Engineers in a collaborative, team-setting.
  • Demonstrate multi-disciplinary teamwork and communication.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or any other related discipline is required.
  • Master’s degree in Geology or any other related discipline is preferred.

Experience:

  • 7+ years of petroleum exploration is preferred.
  • Experience with Gulf Coast geology and exploration is desired.
