Midland Basin Overview
ConocoPhillips holds approximately 372,000 total net acres in the Midland Basin, which includes approximately 248,000 unconventional net acres located in the heart of west Texas. The company operates over 2,800 producing wells across Midland, Upton, Andrews, Martin and Glasscock counties.
In 2023, the company operated five drilling rigs on average, including two electric rigs. Net production in 2023 averaged 182 MBOED and 106 operated wells were brought online.

Description
The Midland Basin asset team is seeking a Reservoir Engineer with a background in development programs, data management, and reserves. If you are selected as a Midland Basin Reservoir Engineer you will report to the Midland Basin Reservoir Engineering Supervisor in Midland, TX.
You may be eligible for the voluntary hybrid office work (HOW) program that is designed to provide employees with flexibility while maintaining the advantages of in-person engagement.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Identify and evaluate technical and economic merits for active development program and ensuring timely execution of field exploitation plans
- Perform production and completion optimization analysis using advanced RTA to sensitize on variables impacting well performance and inform type curves and spacing / stacking development strategies
- Perform advanced economic analysis to optimize and evaluate feasibility of future projects, including considerations for capital, expense, and incremental economics
- Lead pad flow streams meetings with extended asset team to review flowback strategy and production targets for upcoming pads
- Utilize surveillance tools to monitor and diagnose production performance and make recommendations to production operations as necessary to maximize value and minimize operational downtime
- Recommend data gathering and testing programs to improve understanding of well and reservoir performance such as acquisition of DFITs, petrophysical and production logs
- Support planning and finance with all business outlooks / budget forecasting and Long Rang Plan
- Conduct Year End SEC reserves booking for Proved Reserves
Basic/Required:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, other related business field, other related technical field, or foreign equivalent
- 5 or more years of experience in exploration and/or development positions in the upstream oil and gas industry
Preferred:
- 3 or more years of experience as a reservoir engineer
- 1 or more years of experience with production and pressure transient analysis tools
- 1 or more years of experience with evaluating acquisitions, divestitures, and acreage trades
- Intermediate proficiency understanding of DCA techniques and fluid flow regime classification
- Demonstration of strong social skills and ability to work effectively within multi-functional teams supporting concurrent projects
- Builds strong relationships based on trust and seeks opportunities to collaborate across the matrix/organizational boundaries to achieve business goals
- Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what is right
- Delivers positive results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
- Builds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
