We are looking for (1) experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Shipping Operator with our Chemical Plant located in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To perform loading/unloading and shipping/receiving duties as required throughout the resin plant.
  • This position also provides vacation/illness relief for the Vehicle Operator/VCM Unloader. 
  • Conduct daily work activities in support of HSE objectives and policies. Use personal accountability to assist with carrying out duties, responsibilities and authority as defined in HSE programs, practices and procedures.
  • Understand HSE policies and programs. Work safely, with respect to health and environmental requirements.
  • Perform bulk loading duties. 
  • Transfer product from storage silos to the shipping silos. Maintain full inventory in shipping silos.
  • Take silo readings regularly. Take samples and transport them to the lab for testing. Required to complete bulk storage status sheet on all silos.
  • Load trucks & railcars to capacity with correct product.
  • Weigh trucks in and out. Fill out appropriate documentation indicating gross weight, truck number, and lot number.
  • Bulk loader is responsible for the truck until it leaves the plant.
  • In addition to above must ensure vehicle is clean and cannot release the truck until four samples of its cargo have been approved by the lab.
    All vehicles must be loaded safely and efficiently. Key Procedures must be followed.
  • Issue permits as a Qualified Permit Approver.
  • Raw materials receiving, storage and delivery.
  • Receive both bulk and boxed raw materials (antistat and initiator), unload as required, i.e. pump, blow off, using a tow motor or manual off-loading of initiator bottles.
  • General housekeeping duties. Maintaining a clean work area, dump garbage, empty garbage bins. 

Qualifications

 

  • Successful completion of a college diploma – preferred to have a technical emphasis (Science, Math, Engineering or Technology programs).
  • Relevant work experience preferred (e.g. shipping, production, loading, or unit maintenance) in a chemical plant or manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in math, reading comprehension, and mechanical reasoning with strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work a rotating shift; weekends; holidays; overtime; and respond to callouts.
  • Ability to read, write and speak in English.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Must possess valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to perform the physical demands required for this position including climb ladders and stairs, walking, bending and stooping. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator.
  • Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.
