Our business
Our client is seeking a Site Fabrication Coordinator for an urgent start.  The role will manage subcontractor at site in South Africa, and oversee fabrication, inspection, testing and load out of all structures and installation aids. 

Key Responsibilities and background:
 
Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee fabrication, inspection, testing and load out of all structures and installation aids. The structures shall all be fabricated by the Fabrication Subcontractor and the successful candidate will work closely with the fabricator to ensure all Contractor/Company requirements are met; 
  • Supervision of additional manpower (from HSE and QAQC) to follow the Subcontractor work acting on behalf of Contractor.
  • Responsibility for ensuring Contractor’s QA/QC and Fabrication Subcontractor’s strategies, philosophies, plans and schedules for fabrication and construction activities comply with Contract requirements; 
  • Specific supervision of the QAQC process to ensure the correct allocation of the steel and the proper procedure follow up by subcontractor.
  • Coordinate inspection requirements for material and equipment associated with fabrication, construction and offshore installation; 
  • Eventual support with project material logistics (steel, project equipment, etc…).
  • Provide onsite Fabrication support to Contractor and Fabrication Subcontractor personnel; 
  • Provide field resolution solutions to fabrication issues as they arise and escalate issues before they hinder progress and cause delays;
  • Hold and participate in daily, weekly and monthly meetings with Fabrication Subcontractor, Contractor and if needed with Company;
  • Interface with subject matter experts on welding, materials, NDT, painting, fabrication, quality control, engineering, system integration testing and factory acceptance testing to ensure that Contractor/ Company Technical Requirements are met;
  • Assist with the delivery of fabrication Subcontractors documentation and procured materials to meet the construction schedule;
  • Continually monitor and update fabrication progress schedule;
  • Oversee timesheets for all onsite work which is deemed Time and Material;
  • Assist Construction Package Lead as required;
  • Assist the Construction Package Lead to ensure effective project closeout including documentation at end of construction; 
  • Support project wide safety initiatives including development and implementation of an Incident & Injury free culture and Safety Management Plan(s); 
  • Maintain positive and effective working relationship with Contractor and Fabrication Subcontractor personnel during onshore fabrication;
  • The position will be based (full time) at a fabrication yard in the South Africa, however may include only sporadic visits to Contractor Offices in Paris or in Rio;

Critical Skills & Personal Attributes:
 

  • Significant experience in leadership role in fabrication and construction of offshore structures including assembly, welding, NDT and QA/QC
  • Must have experience managing and overseeing Subcontractor providing services are complying with contract requirements.
  • Welding / NDT certification preferred, but not essential.
