About the Role

Based in our Port Moresby headquarters, this position serves a dual purpose: it contributes to the development of company tools, standards, and procedures, ensuring alignment with industry best practices, while also acting as a service provider to the business. 

This role involves directly managing and overseeing key social performance initiatives, including the design and implementation of two-way engagement strategies to assess community impacts, mitigation measures, and tangible benefits.

Additionally, the role is focused on building social performance capability within the stakeholder management and community affairs teams, as well as across the broader business, through a defined work program and ad-hoc needs as they arise.

 Key accountabilities include (but not limited to):  

  • Contributing to the development of a competency framework for the social performance function, and based on this framework, design and implement a targeted social performance training and development plan for the PNG Stakeholder Management team.
  • Supporting due diligence efforts in relation to suppliers, contractors, and mergers & acquisitions, with a focus on evaluating how effectively service providers and companies meet their commitments, manage business interactions, and address the impact of their activities on local communities.
  • Assisting in the planning, coordination, and execution of social performance initiatives, ensuring alignment with broader function responsibilities and organisational goals.
  • Ensuring adherence to the Santos Management System (SMS), including all relevant policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.
  • Upholding compliance with the Santos Delegation of Authority (DOA) framework, ensuring proper governance and decision-making protocols are followed.
  • Ensuring full compliance with Santos’ Corporate Governance and Safety requirements, promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and ethical conduct across all activities.

About You

You will bring significant years of experience in social impact assessment and social performance management within the extractive or infrastructure sector in developing countries. You excel at collaborating closely with national teams to enhance their skills and elevate social performance standards. You have a thorough understanding and practical application of the Equator Principles and the International Finance  Corporation Environment and Social Performance Standards.

You have expert knowledge in human rights, exceptional written and interpersonal communication skills, and advanced stakeholder engagement abilities. You are adept at effectively influencing and collaborating with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. Your strengths include building and maintaining relationships with community stakeholders through mutual engagement, along with strong skills in personnel management, counselling, conflict resolution, negotiation, and team building.

Proficiency in Tok Pisin is crucial for this position.

In addition, you will hold a degree in International Development, Social Sciences, Business Management or similar relevant discipline.
