Job Description:

Our client, a reputable and diversified mining company, is seeking a Specialist in Structural Geology to join their team at their corporate headquarters in Johannesburg. This role is responsible for providing practical structural geology support to identify risks, develop geological models to enhance resource definition and planning effectiveness, and strengthen structural geology capabilities across the business.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safety principles are consistently applied across all disciplines, taking personal responsibility for the safety of self and others to achieve zero harm and eliminate fatalities.
  • Develop and implement best practices for structural geology, including mapping, logging, analysis, interpretation, and modelling.
  • Integrate various datasets (drill hole data, geological mapping, remote sensing, geophysics) to create strong structural interpretations at different scales.
  • Generate and update 3D geological and structural models, assess structural uncertainty, communicate risks, and ensure alignment with geotechnical and gas drainage models.
  • Lead the adoption and integration of new geoscience data capture technologies into 3D modelling workflows.
  • Collaborate with geotechnical, hydrogeology, gas management, and mine planning teams to support business goals and provide structural geology training.
  • Foster a high-performance, inclusive work culture that aligns with company values, promotes diversity, and encourages continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all internal and external regulatory, legislative, and permitting requirements.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Minimum: A bachelors / Honours Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Geosciences
  • Minimum of 4 years in a relevant role.
  • Structural Analysis: Experience in extensional, inversion, and compressional tectonic settings.
  • Data Integration: Ability to synthesize multivariate data for comprehensive interpretations.
  • Geological Knowledge: Understanding of complex geological data across different skill levels.
  • Modelling Techniques (Preferred): Experience in geomechanical and/or numerical modelling.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced ability to apply systematic approaches.
