POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Senior Mechanical Technician assures stable facility operation and assists with the delivery of production targets through competent operations and maintenance of the platform’s mechanical equipment. The Senior Mechanical Technician also provides key oversight and operational experience to the mechanical technicians. This position will be located Offshore in the Gulf of Mexico on a rotational basis (14/14).

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Safety:

• Complying with the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) and United States Coast Guard (USCG) regulations

• Complying with all requirements in the GOM Management Systems documents and Hess EHS standards and practices as defined within the Hess EHS and Social Responsibility (SR)  Management System

• Reinforcing the importance of using and participating in the safety observation card (SOC) program

• Contributing to the safe and efficient operations through competent operations and maintenance of process systems and associated equipment

• Assuring the correct permits, isolations and lift plans are created and properly executed

• Performing the duties of a Permit Issuer or a Permit Holder in compliance with the Hess Permit to Work system and according to competency level

• Understanding Stop Work Authority (SWA) and Ultimate Work Authority (UWA), proactively using SWA when necessary

• Reporting potential process safety and operational optimization issues to the appropriate level

• Completing operations in accordance with regulatory requirements, company controls and Guidelines

 • Always demonstrating personal leadership in process and occupational safety

 • Assuring any work undertaken personally or by co-workers is completed with a driven purpose to eliminate or reduce risk from the workplace

 • Being accountable for improved EHS performance:

    − Managing occupational health and safety risks to eliminate injuries, illness, and incidents

•Participating during pre-job planning, job safety analyses (JSA’s), toolbox talks, simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) meeting and during the job

    − Managing process safety risks, including environmental risks, to reduce process upsets including spills, leaks, and flaring

• Participating as a member of the Emergency Response Team:

    − Complying with the assigned responsibilities defined in each asset’s Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and the Emergency Evacuation Plan (EEP)

    − Participating in emergency response exercises to assure a full understanding of the process and procedures

 

Quality

• Maintaining the capability to operate, perform maintenance and troubleshoot mechanical and system issues for the following equipment:

    − Rotating equipment (e.g., reciprocating engines, gas turbines, centrifugal and positive displacement compressors, and vertical lift pumps and generators)

    − Non-rotating equipment support (e.g., inspection, maintenance, installation: pipework and valves/fittings)

    − Ancillary equipment (e.g., maintenance of waste heat recovery units, heat exchangers, plate/frame, and tube/shell)

    − Firefighting (e.g., inspection, operation, and maintenance: firewater pumps)

• Managing day-to-day mechanical priorities in conjunction with the MS, and the LS maintain the integrity of the facility

• Managing day-to-day work activities through Systems, Applications and Products (SAP) work orders

• Working with the LS, Planner and Material Coordinator to build the work schedule, assuring information is correct in the work orders (e.g., the correct parts are available, and the work capacities are correct)

• Assuring job plans and work packs are complete, there are no gaps in work orders and all information is correct prior to being progressed

• Performing equipment audits of available spare parts to assure there are no gaps in potential breakdowns

• Performing preventative and corrective maintenance activities as scheduled

• Routinely performing equipment repairs based on health checks in alignment with the GOM Condition-Based Monitoring Strategy (e.g., lube oil sampling analysis, vibration analysis, thermography, etc.)
• Assuring that maintenance defects are recorded in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), in a timely manner and to the appropriate amount of detail
• Maintaining full engagement and compliance with the System Ownership plan (autonomous maintenance) • Assuring that equipment received onboard is the correct type and specification as ordered, prior to scheduled work
• Participating in root-cause failure investigations as required to prevent recurrences and help identify trigger events as failure causes
• Assuring the technical integrity of equipment and maintenance standards, recommending changes to the maintenance strategy, policy and procedures as required
• Recommending changes to the maintenance strategy, policy and procedures as required
• Providing mechanical technical input for projects, equipment troubleshooting, Standard Work Instructions (SWI), and turnaround (TAR) preparation as required
• Working closely with Engineering and Maintenance, Reliability, and Integrity (MRI) to provide relevant information on machinery repairs and mechanical activities to facilitate the most efficient and cost – effective plan of action to maximize plant machinery run times
• Actively participating in the Hess Lean Continuous Improvement (CI) process, striving to improve operating and run-time efficiency
• Complying with the Hess Work Management process in SAP for all work on the facility
• Comply with all requirements in the Hess Operational Management System (HOMS) documents
• Participating in meetings as designated by the agreed terms of reference (TORs)

 

Delivery
• Informing the MS of any maintenance activities that could potentially have a negative impact on reliability

 

Cost
• Having an awareness of and challenging, all maintenance and consumable costs incurred within the Operations teams’ mechanical activities

 

People
• Jointly agreeing upon personal performance objectives with the MS and implementing/maintaining management and career development to improve and enhance contribution to the overall team and safety of the facility
• Regularly reviewing personal performance objectives and progress with the MS • Providing mentorship and direction for technicians
• Promoting effective teamwork among technicians
• Actively engaging in coaching and sharing technical knowledge with team members

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Knowledge and Skills
• Complying with and meeting the Hess Corporation and Regulatory Competency Requirements for GOM
• High level of knowledge and understanding around personal and process safety • Understanding and complying with BSEE GOM regulatory requirements as defined by Hess for competence requirements within this role/discipline
• Knowledge in offshore production operations
• Knowledge with maintenance of rotating equipment, including turbines, generators, and centrifugal pumps
• Knowledge in rotating and non-rotating mechanical equipment
• Knowledge of SAP or other Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
• Good working knowledge of Permit to Work systems
• Good computer skills with the Microsoft 365 suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
• Completing ongoing education, refresher, and new equipment training to maintain high-level performance
• Leadership and coaching skills

 

Experience

• Experience working offshore deepwater desirable

• Experience working as a mechanic in industrial settings

 

Education, Training & Certifications
• Associate degree preferred, minimum requirement is High School diploma or GED equivalent required • Obtaining and maintaining Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET)
• Obtaining and maintaining Production Safety Systems training (T-2)
